Need Advice! Should I return this ring? Bought from BN

My husband and I spent 2 weeks on researching hoping to find a "perfect" stone. At last, we ordered the ring from BN. It arrived last Friday.Initially it was a great pleasure because this one is very bright. But later on we figured out it doesn't have a lot fire... Now hesitating if we should return it and get another one... Here's the link to the stone: http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD04923850

We used the HCA calculator and this one is 0.7.

Really need your advice here! Is there a way that we could tell the diamond has great fire statistically? Should I return this one? Any opinion will be so much appreciated! Thank you!

How can you tell it doesn't have great fire? Are you comparing it to another diamond? Did you get an ideal scope image before purchase?

Thank you so much for the reply! I brought it to Tiffany store (1.58 carat, H color, VVS2) to compare it over the weekend. Under the same lighting, it reflects the same strong light but the fire is weaker than Tiffany's and fragmented.

No. I didn't get the Ideal Scope before I bought it coz it's not shown on BN website. Do they provide it? Should I ask for it?

Was it perfectly clean?

Is it possible for you to buy a second stone and then you can keep them for a few days to compare?

Agreed. A dirty diamond will still look bright but will not sparkle much.

I don't think blue nile provides idealscope images.

Also unless you work or live in a Tiffany store, the performance you see there is not representative of what you will see on a regular basis (clean stone or not). I would want to compare stones in the light you normally live in to get a better sense of what your stone does (and without a sales rep looking over your shoulder who potentially has an interest in making you question your original purchase). Also check them out in low lighting conditions. Good luck!

the link isn't working for me - can you post the specs? I assume it is a rb? CA, PA, Table, and depth please

IMO...you would need a higher crown to see more fire. A crown height of at least 15% with a smaller table.

Thank you! maybe will check it again (behind Tiffany SA)

by the depth/table percentages it looks like this is (almost) a 60/60 stone. I have two of these and they don't exhibit a lot of fire. The cost savings made it worth it though and both diamonds are very sparkly and well cut. The same might be happening with your diamond, as 60/60 diamonds don't disperse color flashes as much as "regular ideal cut/Tolk" diamonds.

The table is also a little larger as well, which usually produces more brightness than fire, vs, say, a 55% table would. I would return it and keep looking. You're not happy with it at first sight, so keep looking.

What you have is close to a "60/60" stone - https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/60-60-proportioned-diamond

Typically they have a shorter crown, which results in decreased fire / increased white light return.

Are you open to buying online again? Take a look at the perfect stones to be had on Brian Gavin, High Performance Diamonds, Whiteflash, God Old Gold, etc. You can get a superbly cut stone so you won't have to guess about it's performance. I would be leery of shopping the diamond district - if you are in NYC, is there any way you can go to LI and visit Good Old Gold?

Thanks! Guess i'm now more tending to return it after seeing the reviews. Yes. i'm in NYC. Maybe I should drop by their store to have a look this weekend...
Actually I have never heard about this store before... as a rookie, i only know BlueNile and James Allen. Is it a reliable jeweler?

I've purchased from GOG before, and can't recommend them enough.

You might want to have a look at their website to get an idea of what they have. I'd call them, now, tell them what you are looking for, and that way they can be ready for your visit. They have a lot of stones, in many shapes (some exclusively theirs).

I'm jealous... :) I'd be a kid in a candy store there!

I am also a repeat GOG customer--they rock my face off. We flew from STL to NYC just to go there. We went other places like Tiffany and Cartier to gawk AFTER we took care of priority #1 which was GOG.
