I received my engagement ring, a princess cut centre stone, channel setting. After about 2 weeks, the stone came loose, so I took it back and it was repaired. Now, 3 months later, it is loose again. I can move it easily, almost like it will slide out of the setting. I read that channel settings were the safest for a princess cut diamond, however, now I am not so sure. Does anybody have any suggestions on other settings for a princess cut diamond and please tell me what I should do ( besides taking it back to the jeweller), should I opt for another setting?????

Thanks!

Hard to give specific advice without knowing more about the design and the metal. It is possible that you will have an ongoing problem though it may not be at great risk of coming out (the ends of the channel should be secured).

If you do choose another style, v-tip prongs are probably the most secure way to set a princess. They provide the jeweler with eight pressure points to tighten the stone and they offer protection for the points during wear. But it's also a matter of aesthetics- not everyone likes the look.

I guess I should have mentioned that the ring itself is white gold. Would you have an example of what that prong looks like? Or could you point me in the direction where I could see an example?

Thanks!
