Dear all,

I need some reassurance/advice on my e-ring selection, I've been reading/researching all days and need to make up my mind
7.gif

So here's the plan:

Setting: SC Tiffany 6-prongs classic
Stone: 0.91ct RB, Ideal cut, F, VS1, Ex-polish & symmetry, GIA, 62.3% Depth, 57% Table, 6.19x6.24x3.87
GF's ring size: 4.5

And my question is:

1. How would this 0.91 stone look on the SC tiffany classic setting?
2. Would it be wise to lower the clarity to SI1 and go for a larger stone (>1.0ct) while maintaining the budget?
3. Can you actually tell the difference between 0.9 and 1 ct by looking?

Please share with me your opinions on this, I would really appreciate any comments!

Regards!

First, you say it's "ideal" but GIA doesn't use that term. Do you have the crown and pavilion angles so we can confirm that it is really ideal before we proceed? It's a hair on the deep side, so we would just want to confirm before you purchase if you can.

A .9 stone should be fine in that setting.

As for the clarity, if size is an issue an SI1 could certainly give you a little more playing room, but there is a SIGNIFICANT price jump at 1ct, so you might not be able to get a full carat without lowering the color too (which I would also consider...down to a G or H).

For the size, most people can't tell, but if you put the two side by side yes they will look different. But a truly ideal cut .9 will outshine and outsparkle most of the 1 ct. stones out there for sure, therefore making it appear bigger than .9 carats. But it isn't and will never be a full carat, so if that is important, you should get the full carat.

Thanks for the info Neatfreak! You are so kind and helpful to people's questions! PS is awesome!

So I nailed down my choices to one of the following two:

Stone (1): 0.90ct, F, VS2, GIA, VG cut, VG polish, EX symmetry,
6.22x6.26x3.79, 60.7% depth, 56% table, 35 crown angle, 40.2 pavilion angle,
$4300

Stone (2): 0.91ct, G, VS2, GIA, EX cut, EX polish, EX symmetry,
6.24x6.27x3.84, 61.4% depth, 56% table, 34 crown angle, 41 pavilion angle,
$4600

What's your take? All of your expert opinions are appreciated!!!

Regards!

My vote goes to the second diamond.

Definitely agree with Lorelei! The first stone''s pavilion angle is too shallow.

Thanks for the vote Lorelei & Ellen!
I think I finally come to an end of my fanatic stone search... :)
It's been an exciting/happy/anxious/fun journey...
Thank you PS!
