Hi Everyone. Semi-newbie here, looking to share in some of your diamond expertise.

I am getting ready to purchase THE diamond for my girl''s engagement ring. There is one that I am keying in on but before I go see it this week, I''d like to ask that you give your input.

Here''s what I got so far:

GIA Cert
Shape: Round Brilliant
Measurements: 7.71 – 7.78 x 4.75mm

Carat Weight: 1.74
Color: J
Clarity: SI2
Cut: Excellent

Polish/Symmetry: Excellent/Excellent
Fluorescence: None

Thanks!

As long as it''s eyeclean, everything looks great! No red flags.

Hey, thanks. Yeah, he said it was eye-clean, but I wanted to see what you all thought. Im really interested in the sparkle factor and also, the color (being too tinted?).

Appreciate the input...

Ditto, it looks good! Many happy J owners here with excellently cut stones like that one - you should be fine but if you haven't seen the stone in person, in the unlikely event you wanted to return the diamond, then you are covered. You might notice a teeny hint of warmth from the side of the stone but that is a non issue to many, see what you think when you see it.

On paper, everything looks great, it has very "safe" specs/numbers. As far as we can say, without actually seeing the stone, it should be lovely. You might have an independant appraiser have a look at it after you get it, just to be sure. But from everything we can see, I imagine it will check out just fine.

I also agree with Lorelei, see it in person to find out how you feel. You may not see anything at all, except sparkle!

And you're welcome!

Thanks ladies. After reading some of the other posts here, if I wanted to "plug" my numbers into the HCA, how do I go about doing that? I only have the GIA report, that lists the measurements but I don''t know what''s what.

Any ideas?

All you do is plug in the

depth
table
crown angle
pavilion angle

As you see them above on the report into the HCA and that will bring up your score. The aim is to score 2 or below generally, and bear in mind the HCA isn't used for selection but to eliminate the lesser performers.

It gets a 1.2 in the overlap of GIA/AGS. Perfect. To get there, plug in depth, table, and crown 34.5/pavilion 40.8 angles.

THANKS! I''m amazed at the diamond knowledge on this forum.

I am also feeling good about seeing this baby. I''ll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again to both of you.
