I am looking at a 1.2 G SI2 loose diamond. They said it was eye clean. I had a budget of 4500 dollars. This one is a little over at 4850. I think it will be OK only if it is a good deal. My question is 1) how would you rate the price for this stone 2) could I find a stone that faced up bigger for the same price. Also if I got this stone I would have to get a plain solitaire setting and let her pick out a setting later on. If I found a less expensive stone I might be able to get a Pave setting. Any comments welcome

Welcome!

It has good potential, the very thin girdle will be the reason it received a VG and not EX GIA cut grade, so check carefully with the vendor that the v thin part isn't a durability issue - they are nothing to worry about if the very thin part is in the microns or covers only a small non vulnerable area, but always best to check. Also make sure the diamond is eyeclean to your standards by making your expectations clear to the seller, is it an online diamond or with a store jeweller?

Also I think you have the depth and table reversed, that being the case the measurements look good.

your right I had the depth and table reversed. If it checks out to be eye clean what about the price. is this a good deal, average, or could I find a better diamond.

If it is with an online vendor you can check the price using the Pricescope your Diamond tool above to compare similar, typically brick and mortar stores will be more expensive but you should get an idea with the search tool.
