I would hold her to the April 30th, 2010...

I am soo glad that it''s working out for you!! Make sure to hold your landlord to the lease though!!

I haven''t read every single post here, just skimmed through the whole thread, but I think a couple of you were a bit tough of Amethyste. It *is* her money and her life. For what it''s worth, I remember reading that she saved up over a loooooong time, something like 20 yrs, for that ring. It is not our place to judge anyway.

Amethyste, I''m glad the current lease is ending at the end of April. Hold you landlord to it.

Hi Amethyste,
My family used to live in MA, so I feel your pain. We found that 3M brand window film mounting tape/window kits seal the film well, but the other brand at Home Depot did not seal well. Even though 3M was more expensive, it ended up saving us money and effort.

If you already have a bunch of the shrink plastic, perhaps you can buy the 3M adhesive only and not by the entire kit again from 3M? We concluded it was the adhesive, not the film, that made the difference.

The other thing you can do is to close off the heat to one of your rooms until it gets warmer. This way, you can heat one less room, and also have more insulation to the outside if you pick a room that has an external wall. You can seal off the door to that room with plastic. Just make sure that any water pipes don''t freeze.

BTW, I love your ring.

THank you Phoenix... I appreciate your comment. Maybe I wasn''t clear from the get-go, I can afford the heat at my place, it''s just that this house is so poorly insulated, i **Know** it is throwing money away, and I hate that. I believe the landlord made a mistake in her lease and made a 5 month lease instead of a 6 month. I am happy that I''ll be able to move out in a month 1/2 to the new place.

Yup! That''s the kit I have and it doesn''t seal really well. I''ll see about getting the right adhesive for the wrap to stick.
thank you so much for your suggestions... :)

After looking at the lease, I think she messed up:

Term of Lease: Begins on December 1,2009 and ends at 12:00 noon

on April 30,2010.

She is missing a month in there... That''s why I was thrown off.

can she come back to me and say: Well, it was supposed to be for 6 months and

that is not 6 months. Well, i go with what is written in my lease... So, I guess

she made a mistake...

The landlord cannot come back: Any contradiction in the lease (contract) terms is interpreted to favor the best person for the party who did not generate the contract. It is the Landlord''s lease - and they are legally responsible to ensure it is accurate and consistent. This is standard contracts law.

Also, I''m glad you liked my gas bill story. Of course, changing the boiler was a 5 figure job (boilers are expensive - but done right last many decades) - but it needed to be done. I also relocated it (which cost more $$) but gained useful space as I went from an item that occupied a good chuck of the center of the basement to a wall hung box on one of the walls.
