This will be set in a platinum north east south west setting.

So a 0.72 carat, VS2, excellent cut, polish and symmetry, G color selling at James Allen for $3,200. A fraction of the $7k retailer cost you were quoted. As I said I'm a newbie so I'm sure I'm missing something important here. I just thought I'd put it out there.

Is it just a solitaire setting? That price is super high - there a number of quality stones on JA between .75 and .82 VS1-SI1 E-H color range for $4-5000. In fact, there's a .77 SI1 F AGS000 for $3650. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1486182.asp

Platinum Solitaire starts at $590. If the North East South West setting refers to prong placement only, I'm sure they can customize something for you.
