So I''m new to all this or else I wouldn''t be writing this. I found a stone online and have the dimensions.

#1
Depth 60.6
Table 54
Crown angle 34
Pavilion angle 40.4
girdle thn-med

1.53 G VSI AGS id/id/id $14,400

Now it comes up .6 ex/ex/ex/vg which is great but I have read that these low numbers aren''t really AS good as say 1-1.5. Now I imagine we are cutting hairs at this point, but I just wanted to know what this would look like compared to say this one

#2

depth 60.6
Table 55.8
crown angle 34.4
pav angle 41.0
girdle thn-med

These numbers are by sarin report. The cert has depth of 60.4 and table 56.

1.52 G VSI GIA ex/ex $13,900
This gets a 1.6 but only ex/vg/vg/vg

Now I''m I splitting hairs with this? I''m one of those people who wants the best for the money. Both are great stones I think. I know these are just numbers but any advice would be helpful.

Thanks again.

up close there would be a difference in appearance.
I wouldnt consider the first for a ring myself.
I like the angles on the second one better.
Do you have an ideal-scope image or other information?
Who is the cert by (gia, ags, egl) on the second one and what are the angles on the cert if it has them?

The second stone is GIA ex/ex. I''m assuming it''s an ideal cut due to its dimensions. It was listed as ideal. I can get an ideal scope on either of them if I want. It wasn''t the new GIA certs so it doesn''t have dimensions on the cert.

I''ve found other diamonds online. However, not all of them have idealscope availability. Others have been hard to even get Sarins for. I''m not rushing this because the process is natural time consuming. My question boils down to is this diamond worth the money. I''ve found many others. I can''t list them all here for brevity''s sake but let me ask you this.

What dimensions do you look for in a diamond? table, depth, crown angle, pav angle? This would really help me here.

Does a 1.6 HCA with VG differ THAT much from EX?

I know that everyone has a preference and that''s great, but at what point do general people who want a really nice diamond have to stop and say "you know what, that .3 degrees won''t matter" or "that 1 vs 1.5 on HCA isn''t going to kill me".

I ignore the ex/vg.. stuff for the most part on the HCA.
It doesnt take into account the minor facets wich has a impact of the final apearance.
A one and a 1.5 would both be acceptable and no problem.

Id get an IS of the second one, its worth checking into further.

here is my step by step process.
start with a search by cut on the PS search above.
check out the options. hca 1 to 2 is a very safe zone.
Visit www.jamesallen.com look at the signiture series, www.winkjones.com , www.diamondexpert.com and look for simular diamonds and look over the options.
Visit www.goodoldgold.com because sometimes he has diamonds that arent in the search up.

From those start looking at IS/LS images and other information the vendors provide.

Narrow it down from there taking all the information into account.
Ask for advice on the board if needed to make the final decision.

Buy diamond and hunt for a setting.
buy both and your done :}

Thanks for your help. I''ll do that.
