Can someone give me some advise? I''m looking for a diamond and don''t know much about them. I stopped in to speak with a jeweler and didn''t feel comfortable. I''m very hard to be sold on something without doing research. The jeweler showed me four diamonds and none of them were certified. The jeweler said you can get a better deal on an uncertified stone. This might be true but being that I don''t know much I don''t think it would be wise to just jump in. What I''m looking for is a princess cut diamond, about a 1.5 carats or bigger, I think a G-H color, about an SI1 and looking for under $7000. Can anyone help maybe give me ideas of what a 1.5c G, SI1 would go for? I want something that will look great, maybe bigger, maybe better cut, or something else. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Paulie,

Welcome. Read about recent standards for AGS0 for princesses here by doing a search. You''ve probably set your targets based on some shopping, but to upsize your cut standards, you may have to pay more. General suggestions at the link below my signature.

Regards,

I would not be likely to ever drop 7k on an uncerted diamond.
Just not worth the risk.

I agree with strm, 7k on an uncerted stone is too risky. If you aren't in a huge rush, stick around here and get educated, you are on the right track by saying you don't like making big purchases without research, learn exactly what you want then you can post the contenders here and this will help you find a beautiful diamond. Make cut your number 1 priority if you can, as a diamond with a poor cut won't be beautiful. As Regular Guy says, do a search on the AGSO Princesses here which will be a big help. Once you have done your homework then you are ready to begin seriously looking, try the online vendors if that appeals to you, they all have a good return policy. Buying a diamond is more complicated than many other things, there is a lot to learn before you can make the best choice and compromises that may be necessary, however this research won't be wasted and you will be in a much better position to buy a diamond that you will love for many years. Something that looks great will always depend on the cut quality. Princess diamonds with the specs you mention are out there in your budget, more in the H colour which should still look very white. You will see there is quite a difference between the colour and clarity grades and this is sometimes where the compromises are made if needed.

paulie17,

Well, it looks like you are going in the right direction. Educating yourself on diamonds and checking with those here on Pricescope is only going to benefit you. I agree with the others. I wouldn''t pay $7k for a non-graded diamond either. I believe that you will be able to get a very nice quality diamond that fits within your carat, color, and clarity desired range. You should also be able to get a GIA graded princess cut as well. Keep learning, keep shopping, and you''ll find the perfect diamond for you. Good luck.....
