I found a setting that I like at a local shop and the guy showed me a diamond that looked great in the setting. The problem I’m having is I think he’s about $3000 to high for the diamond and I’m not even sure if it’s a diamond worth buying. The table is much bigger than the depth and I’m thinking that it may leak a lot of light. So here are my questions: What is a fare price for this diamond? Is it even worth buying? How can I tell the quality of the cut if it’s not on the cert? If I find a nicer more fairly priced stone online can I have the dealer make the setting to match the one from the store (I took pics)? The store owner told me he would have to sell me the setting at full price if I brought in my own stone. I almost don’t even want to deal with this guy just because of that statement. Anyhow, I attached the Cert and hope someone can steer me in the right direction.
Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt and welcome!

There are a few flags here...Although EGL USA is said to be the most reliable out of the EGL labs, I would personally want to make any sale final on the diamond checking out to your satisfaction in all aspects with an independant appraisal, click here for the appraisal tool.

The girdle of the diamond has more variance than I would like to see, also you would need to get a second expert opinion on the very thin girdle to see if it is a potential durability issue - especially in a Princess. The table size is greater than the depth too, it looks as if this stone is what we call a ' commercial' quality cut. What I would do is try to view some well cut Princess so you can see how a well cut stone can behave, try Jareds for their AGS0 Peerless if they have a store in your area.

Ditto, also the crown should preferably be above 10%.
