Northern NJ. Perferable not one of these crooks who charge a percentage of the appraisal. Does anyone know of someone good who I can get a good appraisal from who also offers close up pictures for my insurance company?

Im hoping to get some feedback from someone who had a good experience with a particular vendor. I did a google search and there are literally thousands in the NY/NJ area. I''m looking for people to tell me they liked this guy or that guy. Thanks for the tip though!!

klavigne,
If an appraiser charges a percentage of the value as an appraisal fee...RUN..not walk out the door. This practice is unethical and unacceptable.

Thanks Jeff, I''m sure most people on PS already know this but it''s good advice. I can''t for the life of me understand why someone would do this. Why wouldn''t they appraise it higher? I''m sure there are a few people out there that charge a percentage that are honest, but lets face it, would you trust them if you didn''t know them. I walked into a local jeweler and asked how must it was and they said 2 percent, I laughed right in his face, didn''t say a word, just turned around and laughed my way out of the store!! The look on the face of the customer he was with was priceless!! lol

True, most PS folks know this already. I''m surprised that you actually encountered a jeweler who charges a percentage of the value. Even if an appraiser or jeweler IS honest, he should not be charging a percentage, ever.

There''s some good appraisers listed in NJ here on Pricescope, as the administrator tried to point out. If they didn''t have a good reputation among members here, they probably wouldn''t be on that list. I only have personal experience with Rockdoc, but he''s in Florida.

Here''s a link to the list and their comparisons:
