NC - 3 more weeks of phase 2 and masks required

Same here in CA.

Actually I am glad he said masks required, we have so many not wearing them and since we opened up the beaches the tourists just don't care. Our numbers are going in the wrong direction for use to be able to open schools.

IL is going phase 4 Friday.
Masks and social distance

I miss NC beaches...I wear mask when I do shopping but prefer not to wear it while walking outside. Getting fresh air instead of my own CO2 that I exhale. There were even joggers in masks during phase 1, now I see many other joggers who don't wear masks. We walk our dog in neighborhood so I know people well. I would rather stop jogging, our blood need oxygen, not CO2.

I’m in california. I believe we will probably be ordered back into our homes soon..

I’m in GA where cases are skyrocketing and our school district of 110,000 kids just announced our options are:

1. Full time, in person school, with masks “encouraged”, social distancing “when possible”

or

2. Full time online, with parent support expected.

Whichever option you chose, you must commit to for the entire semester.

Literally no other details about what happens when a kid (likely many kids) in school get sick, or what happens if your kid gets sick and then misses 21 days, what virtual will look like (March-May was a free for all).....etc, etc. The unanswered questions are endless, yet they expect us to commit to an option by July 10th. It’s crazy!

Why they are not mandating masks (at least in middle/high school) I can’understand. We know with 1400 kids in our high school, social distancing “when possible” means “not at all”, so at the very least, have them wear masks.

What a nightmare of a choice....significantly risk your child’s health by sending them to school completely unprotected or keep them home, where they are physically safe, but getting a self-led (subpar) education and risk significant emotional issues related to isolation.

Is it too late to return my teenagers so I don’t have to make a decision??:errrr:

We've been doing pretty well in CO lately, but now we're pretty much surrounded by states having spikes, which means we will too.

Where I am in Canada we're only at phase 2. No real plan for school in Sept yet. No plan for colleges either.

I am hoping not and that people follow the mask order, but who knows. Ugh.

So sorry, I did see your numbers are very high there

Across the pond in UK, we have had some glorious weather.

Unfortunately, <<<Insert colourful metaphor of one's choice>>> flocked to the beaches, with no regards to social distancing and public properties. Fights broke out, and rubbish everywhere etc...

There were even reports of people defecating into used burger/takeaway containers and left them on the beach for others to pick up!!! :x2

It did not come as a surprise to me at all, just very disappointed to find my faith in humanity had been let down yet again!

As I had said before, I shall concentrate on my own actions and reactions, and to ignore other people's. Otherwise I would go mental in no time!

I saw something about that "major incident" on the web, so sad.

My state is passing the next phase uNtil more testing comes in. Same story here - people going to beach acting like there isn’t a pandemic.

Yup, I really feel sorry for the locals.

One of the beaches in the news is my favourite one in the area - my dog and I always go there wherever we go camping about 30min drive away.

DK :((

Oh @yennyfire that's so tough! Both hubby and I know the primary syllabus and can teach it very well but we'd probably tap out at around grade 8. I don't know how a parent would support a higher grade student. I don't remember any integration, differentiation etc

Nothing useful to add except I really feel for you. I think in this instance having younger kids is easier as they coped extremely well under isolation. School has started here for a few weeks and every child I spoke to enjoyed being home more than school!!!!!! They could barely stay awake first week of school because they were so used to sleeping in!

I imagine teenagers are a different story.

Thanks! I can’t even handle my daughter’s 8th grade math, much less the Algebra II/Trig my son is taking or AP World History and Spanish III! He’s really on his own, though I’m always willing to find tutors if needed!

I’d imagine that just like “regular” life, neither teens nor little kids are easier right now, just different sets of problems. The local Facebook Mom’s groups, high school FB pages, etc. have blown up with ugly debate about masks, quality of education, the greater good, etc....it’s become so ugly and divisive I can’t bear to read anymore....much like the overall state of our nation these days. It’s awful!

I feel for the moms out there and have the utmost respect for what you're doing. I am so very glad that I don't have school aged children. And @yennyfire - when my children were in school, the parents bantered back and forth the same way, just different topics. We would refer to them as the "overachiever" , bored housewives. Take care and I wish all of the mother's out there peace and sanity. Q:wavey:

We are at the Jersey Shore and no one is wearing masks outdoors. Even where it is crowded and social distancing is impossible. The beaches and boardwalks continue to be mad crowded and people are sandwiched in there like sardines. NO masks in sight. And in the stores here where masks are required some are wearing them under their noses.

Yeah my prediction is we will be in full Covid 19 swing once again here and soon . :((

PS desperately needs a “dislike” button! Holy moly that’s a crowd!

Apparently one of the conditions for pubs/bars to open, in addition to the ability to maintain at least 1m social distance between groups/tables etc., would need to keep a register of the punters for tracing purposes in the event anyone develops Covid-19.

Sorry, however, that defeats the fun of going to pubs and bars for me, as I usually go when I feel like it with no fixed time or schedule.

Restaurants are fine, as I like to and often dine alone. I may even visit the only 2-star restaurant in my county and have a gourmet meal to celebrate their re-opening, as they do not need to do anything with their restaurant layout - their tables were over 2m apart normally before lockdown!

DK :))

And it’s worse than it looks. I couldn’t capture the density with my phone. :(

Honestly @missy, you couldn’t even see the sand on beaches here on Thursday  Any sense that people had, seems to have evaporated with the sun! After 12 weeks in lockdown, I don’t think I could stand another 12 caused by people who think it’s just ’gone away’.

IMO there at 2 main reasons for this.
1. Common sense is not so common
2. People are selfish

ETA @Austina check out the last meme I shared in the meme thread. How one can greatly reduce getting Covid 19. #truth

Here’s a news pic of Bournemouth on Wednesday. It was pure madness. We’ll be back in total lockdown just in time for the school summer holidays, all so people could have one day by the beach in the sun. And public loos aren’t open, so goodness knows what kind of basic hygiene issues have been caused too...

Meanwhile from my niece in AZ, where things are out of control and there isnt an ocean:

the end of a post from a nurse in the Ariona Covid nursing Facebook group:

Helicopter pilot from Yuma medical center flying patients to Phx because Yuma is full

Tucson Medical Center called me at 9pm saying they are in desperate need of ICU NPs and will require an 8-12 week contract. (I’m not trained in critical care).

*Lots of stories of Arizona healthcare workers breaking down crying at work, calling out sick therefore being very short staffed for the next shift, and actually getting sick with COVID. EVERYONE is working overtime. Healthcare workers are getting slammed. My heart goes out to all of them

Oh my gosh those crowds :nono:

Florida's numbers are climbing. The governor has shut down bars. Drinking and social distancing don't really mix well.
In my county, the average age of getting covid has dropped from in the 50s to 35ish. While cases of infection have gone
up, the death rate has declined probably partly due to the younger age of those getting sick and/or may be due to the weakening
of the virus??? I'm thinking the age of new infections will start to go up again(as well as the death rate).:(

The school (county) sends out email (weekly) asking for input but they dont give us any options that they are looking at.
It would be easier if they said we are looking at Options A, B, or C. What would you feel most comfortable with?

My DH golfs with a couple of teachers so he gets some info but the county is not sharing it with anyone else. Frustrating
for sure. Fortunately, we have always had a good virtual school in our county so anyone can go with that option if they
dont want to send their kids to school. Mine needs social interaction (because she is quiet and sticks to herself). I really
hate to keep her home. She is also part of the orchestra which she loves so I hate for her to miss out on that. I'm thinking
I'm going to send her back but just not really sure. I wish the county would give us some info so we could feel a little more
confident considering school starts again around mid-August.

Stay safe out there folks!
