It baffles me that my husband and I are still natural light blondes. Both our parents had blonde hair as children but theirs turned brown before age 10. I remember I used to stare at my dad''s beautiful silky chocolate brown hair and wonder when I would get his pretty hair. Well, I got the beautiful silky very light blonde hair instead. Any idea what causes some people to stay light their entire lives? I only know of one other natural blonde so I guess you could say I''m a rare commodity

My husband, his sister and his mom all have naturally blond hair still at 35, 40 and 62. His mother has no gray in her hair either and doesn''t dye it. My hair was blond as a kid but it''s darkened over the years to a dark blond with natural blond highlights. I really hope our kids get DH''s hair. Not only for the color, but it''s thick and wavy too as opposed my my fine and straight hair.

I don''t know the reasons. All of the females in my immediate family are natural blondes. Mom is still one at 54! Mine has gotten darker over the years, but it''s still definitely blonde. Weird!

I don''t think it''s weird? Two cousins are light blondes in their 30''s. Never changed.

My husband and his sister are also still very blonde and in their 30''s even though both their parents have brown hair. It''s all about genes.

My mom is 55, my dad is 58 and my grandmother is 77 and none of them have gray hair nor do they dye their hair

I had black hair and dark skin when I was born (my mom actually thought they brought her the wrong baby

since everybody in my family is blonde with very pale skin). I stayed dark until I was about 5 and then started getting lighter. Now I have dark blonde hair and very light skin

I have red hair and my parents both have brown hair - it''s all about genes and if something is recessive, it can hide for a generation or two. Blond is the same way.

My mom''s blonde hair just started darkening during menopause. My dad has very dark brown hair. Of their 4 children, we''re all considered blonde although we always said that one sister was brown (just a whole lot darker than the rest of us.) My brother and 1 sis are still very light blonde, I''ve darkened but still definitely blonde--more goldy than white now.

JT was born with hair that was as dark as my DH''s (very dark brown). That all fell out and it came in nearly white blonde. Now at 4 it''s darkening. I assume he''ll go brown during childhood.

I know it has to do with low levels of pigmentation and we''re all fair-skinned as well as fair-haired. My guess would be if you picked up a higher pigmentation from one parent, you''d probably have the darker hair too.

I still remember when I was about 5 and this stranger looked at my mom and said something about her "tow heads" but of course, I thought he was saying "TOE head." I couldn''t figure out why he would say something like that.

I''m a natural platinum blonde and so is my sister. Both of my parents were blondies as children but now have brown hair. Mine has gotten a bit darker with age and pregnancy but still platinum blonde. I love being blonde and I always say that if it really starts to go brown then I''ll start coloring it.

I was teased a lot as a child/teen because my hair is "white" and it''s funny how some things work out; a lot of the gals that teased me for being so blonde started bleaching their hair to nearly the same shade when Pamela Anderson became a big hit on Bay Watch

I also get asked all the time if I''m an albino (by adults even!). For the record: I am not!

My DH also had blonde hair as a child and it turned a reddish brown as he got older. When our son was born he had strawberry blonde hair that eventually fell out and now he''s a tow head like his mama.

My hair is a golden blonde naturally and has been that way my entire life. It does darken a bit in the winter and get a little lighter than norm in the summer.

Just thought I''d share....

Remember when girls were dying the top of their heads white and the underneath brown?? I added the brown to mine (it looked awful) and when it grew out it was hilarious. I had blonde roots and dark ends.

Don''t even get me started on this. People in this town still do it. On purpose. And they pay for it.

Hi Sparkly!

I'm a blonde too, the only in my family. Best answer I have is a very strong recessive gene. And no, the milkman didn't leave me!

My hair was platinum, nearly white, when I was little. Now, it's more of a golden, maybe dirty blonde, so I guess it did darken over the years. It lightens up over the summer.

ETA: HaaaaHa - DF - Nice try

being a true blonde is very rare - I am one. In fact I dye my hair with 9 to DARKEN it lol - my natural color is okay - some people love it - but I think having a little more color to it helps.

it is pretty rare... I''m danish by descent so pretty sure I get it from there and my mom''s side of the family that had northern german, irish, etc.

The 2 ladies who run the tanning salon in this town still do it too. But, they do it with weaves. Now THAT''S hot!! Because no one in this town can actually do extensions either!

This thread baffles me a lot more than the fact that people have blonde hair! Err.. it''s not that rare. Genetics, anyone?

it is completely rare to see adults with blonde hair - real blonde hair. I cannot tell you how many times I have stopped and looked around and not seen a SINGLE other person who wasn''t a dye job.

Shrug... I must attract blonde friends then. Still, this thread is strange. I have unusual green eyes, too. I can''t imagine where they appeared from other than the genes my parents gave me

My hair dresser told me that 11% of the worlds population is naturally blond as an adult.
