Hello Guys,

Well, it came down to 2 diamonds. I am attaching the SARIN and ASET of the 2 along with a side by side. One is a 2.10 carat GIA I VS1 with an EX EX on cut and Sym. Its table is larger that then 2nd even though its a 2.1 vs. the AGS 2.25.

The 2nd is AGS 2.25 G SI1 IDEAL Cut 0, Light 0, Sym 0, Polish 0

The GIA is $11400 and the AGS is $15500. The AGS has a better ASET but is is worth $4K. Also, based on what you see, is this a major difference in person? I am new but have done a bit of research but not being able to see these, I am hoping you all can help.
Thanks

I tried to upload the side by side mag pic but not working. Will try again. My sales rep mentioned that obviously the AGS is better but that the GIA looks really good also and shows very well. As a guy, I do like that the 2.1 "looks" bigger by about .5 mm or so and its $4K less. But if the GIA looks a very nice stone but the AGS looks amazing then its worth it. The rep stated that the GIA would look better when compared to most diamonds out there but the question is does it look "amazing" when compared to the avg. stone. I see many rings from friends and many are nice but I really dont see much fire. Anyhow, almost done pulling out my hair out!

Thanks

I think the AGS stone is worth the extra cash. The ASET has a much more even distribution of red, whereas the large triangular chunks of green in the GIA stone may show up as relatively dead areas. I would call the GIA a nice make, but it's not a stone I would buy because of the cut. The AGS is one I would buy in a heartbeat; it's going to be a stunner. It's hard to say whether the GIA would look "amazing" compared to the average stone...better, yes, but amazing? I'm not sure. The AGS WILL look amazing.

ETA: The corner-to-corner red on the AGS stone will go a long way toward making it appear larger, even if it has smaller measurements than the GIA. The GIA stone lacks this corner-to-corner light return. Food for thought.

ETA2: A large part of the price difference is in the carat weight and especially the color. At this size, small gradations in color are worth a lot of money.

I would deff prefer the AGS...

Jstar makes a great point, stating that the sparkles on the AGS will extend from corner to corner and making the diamond appear larger.

If you held these two diamonds up to each other, I believe the AGS will beat out the GIA significiantly. Color wise and sparkle... but

$4000 dollars significantly? I guess only you can decide that considering my diamond from Whiteflash cost me $4000 lol

Although, i did spend extra so that I could have the best quality diamond for the size i wanted (I went with an ACA from WF) and DAM IT WAS WORTH IT! so maybe its proportionate for you?

Hope this helps

Definitely the AGS. The extra $4000 is well spent because of the exceptional cut, color grade (2 grades up), and the L/w ratio (perfect square). No sense of dropping lots of money on something that is only average looking (or just a bit better) even if the price is less. You get what you pay for. It is better to pay the extra money on an amazing diamond, as you do not buy too many diamonds anyway. For me, one to two amazing diamonds will be enough.

AGS for me.

yap, AGS price is mainly due to the weight and color. If you can swing it, AGS.

Make sure the AGS stone has clarity up to your specifications. If you ask about "eye clean," that probably means face up from a certain distance. If you want it to be clean from any distance angle, you really ought to ask and find out. For me, I would never consider buying something so large and expensive if I was not sure that it was totally clean to the eye (not even just mine, but anyone''s) from whatever angle/distance. I find folks on this forum rank cut so highly that clarity gets dropped if "eye clean." This is really a vague term, and you should understand better what you are getting in such a large diamond, where inclusions are more likely to be visible.

Thanks Everyone. Getting down to these two was an adventure in itself and thank the forum and pricescope from almost making really bad buying decisions prior to finding the site.

I had to make a decision last nite due to time constraints so went with the AGS and feel WAY more comfortable with that decision. I am also making a custom setting that was running about $3300 so it was hurting as the budget was being squeezed. But hey, FancyD had a good point. This is a once in a lifetime purchase so do it right.

Thanks Jstar on the sparkle to the edges. Didnt think of that.

They are going to set it in a solitare for now and when the custom setting is done, I will post pics!

BTW, whats the feed back on the price? Good deal? When comparing, it seemed very fair. Hate to be overpaying.
Thanks again!

WF pricing is competitive.

WF are very competitively priced, no concerns there.
