Of the following, could your rank these, or just isolate those that you think would be worthwhile to request an Idealscope for? Thanks!

1. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS2-Premium-Cut-Round-Diamond-1048754.asp Like this one, also has long lower girdle facets which I particularly like, ask for an Idealscope image if interested.
2.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1050253.asp Looks great, again IS would be good.
3.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1210453.asp Might be fine, definitely need an IS for that angle combo.
4.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-VS2-Premium-Cut-Round-Diamond-1241828.asp Not as good as number 2.
5.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VS2-Premium-Cut-Round-Diamond-1247103.asp Could be a real winner, table slightly larger than the others but still could be an excellent choice.
6.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1186752.asp This one will look a bit small for 1.5cts, also the pavilion angle is on the shallow side, an Idealscope and check by the gemologist would be best for this one.
7.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1230972.asp This one looks great, ask JA if they have a hearts image ready for this one.
8.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VS2-Premium-Cut-Round-Diamond-1248271.asp This one looks good, falls within fiery ideal cut range ( FIC) again IS would be useful.

7 and 2 are my favourites.

Yes to these: 1,2,7 but there is already an IS,8
Maybe: 3
No: 4,6

This is what I would personally do

Give me nr 2 and nr 3.
I prefer nr 3 because nr 2 has graining and I don''t like that.

Thanks all so much for your time and thoughts. My goal here is to get a 1-1.5 carat diamond, and when I''ve looked in stores, I am immediately drawn to HoF. However, I do not want to pay that premium if I can hope to find the same type of look online. Is this really feasible? I''ve been putting a lot of time into finding non-branded diamonds (i.e. mostly non-H&A on JA) so that I can get "a lot of diamond for the money." Now, I included choice 7 above so that there would be one H&A in the list. Two questions: (1) will an H&A be otherwise indistinguishable from HoF if the other key specs match and (2)is there any reason to hope that 1 or 2 or 3 could be as visually effective? Thanks so much!

However, I do not want to pay that premium if I can hope to find the same type of look online. Is this really feasible? Yes if the diamond is well cut and shows good hearts and arrows then you can have a similar look to HoF. I've been putting a lot of time into finding non-branded diamonds (i.e. mostly non-H&A on JA) so that I can get 'a lot of diamond for the money.' Now, I included choice 7 above so that there would be one H&A in the list. This one ( choice 7) could be comparable to HoF as it is one of James Allen's h&a stones, ask them for a hearts image. Number 2 looks good also.

Number 2 looks like a H&A for me.
It is listed as Ideal, but as James Allen explained on the forum, only the diamonds he receives from 1 manufacturer are sold as H&A''s. This doesn''t mean that you can''t find some H&A diamonds that are ''only'' graded Ideal.
If H&A optical symmetry is what you are looking for, nr 2 looks like a winner.

To be frank, 7 is a little more than I would prefer to pay. That is why I''ve put so much time into finding others. When I was on this forum before, someone suggested 5 above. I feel like I''ve at least done a decent job, since the consensus seems to be that 1, 2 and 3 are the most hopeful. But again, is there anyway they will have the look of HoF?

The one Lorelei is talking about looks very nice too.
It''s listed as H&A.

I''ve never seen HoF diamonds, but I''ve seen other brands like 8*, Infinity, ACA.
No cutter can always cut the same way, and even HoF will sell diamonds with slightly different appearance.

With regards to 2 and 3, is there somewhere I can read about what graining is and what effect it might have on the image? Thanks.

This is quoted from Todd of niceice.

"The comment on the lab report referring to "Surface Graining Not Shown" sounds kind of serious but it really isn't... Surface graining is essentially a transparent line that is part of the grain of the diamond which happens to be visible across a facet junction. It is essentially the same thing as Internal Graining but it resides on the surface of the diamond instead of being within the crystal structure of the stone. If the surface grain line were within the structure of the facet and not crossing over the facet line it wouldn't be mentioned on the lab report because it would be considered a characteristic of polish. Most surface graining is so insignificant that we are rarely able to find it and when we do it is because we are using extensive magnification like 50 - 70x which is substantially higher than the industry standard of 10x which is supposed to be used for diamond grading. In the case of a diamond graded as Internally Flawless in clarity, as a general rule it is likely that the diamond may have been graded as Flawless instead of Internally Flawless if the surface graining were not present."

In this instance surface graining " not shown" in the comments section is a non issue - nothing to worry about.

Hi Lorelei!
Do you agree with me that graining in a IF-VVS diamond is a non issue, but that it can be worse in VS2 or lower clarity diamonds?
I saw several SI diamonds with obvious graining and it really makes a diamond look fake to my eye.

Would an IS image help to mollify any concerns graining might have? As a side question, can an IS image elucidate fire vs brilliance? Thanks.

No. In the majority of cases surface graining isn't an issue, especially with VS2 you should be fine but if you are concerned though ask for the gemologist Julianna to check the diamond out for you, that will settle the question.

Hi friend!

The ones I have seen have been fine and VS2 I wouldn''t imagine there is a problem but if climber is worried then Julianna the gemologist at JA could eyeball the diamond and let him know!
