Napa and Sonoma counties are on fire....

Yeah, we live in So. Cal and I could smell smoke when I awoke.
There is a fire east of us and wind is blowing smoke this way.

The sunlight is a very bizarre reddish-orange color.
Maybe I'll try to get a pic.

Did you all get the crazy winds reported?

No, we're near a beach in the huge flat LA basin.
The high winds are in passes east of here.

It looks really eerie outside, like we're on Mars but I can't get away from work to take a pic. :angryfire:

Northern CA has it much worse then we do ... right now that is.

My friend K had to evacuate her house and move her horses, dogs, and cats.

I have a couple of friends who are being evacuated. Praying that everyone can get to a safe place asap!

The news reporting on the fires is heartbreaking. I'm glad your friends and their animals are safe @Matata I can't even begin to know what the people of California are going thru. It's so sad.

:blackeye:
Unbelievable levels of devastation, and in so many places at once. It's been a terrible year for fires throughout the west.

Devastating, terrifying and heartbreaking. Hoping the fires are contained soon and no more lives are lost.:cry2:

I am haunted by the memory of the 2003 fires...I will never forget what happened. And started by a man who was lost and looking for help. Deliberately started by someone who didn't care about the welfare of others.

Oh no...11 dead and 100 missing (hopefully out of harms way)... So much destruction this year. :(2

My heart and thoughts are with those in the area. Hoping for safety for all.

It’s so hard right now.

HI:

Heartbreaking. Be safe folks!

cheers--Sharon

The first victims identified in the fire were a 100-year-old man and his 98-year-old wife; they had been married 75 years. It looks like he died trying to get to his wife to save her. :cry2:

http://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/...dentified-as-first-casualties-of-12266922.php

There are 15 confirmed deaths now, and 180+ missing. More counties are being evacuated, and the sky even 60 miles away is opaque with smoke and ash.

It now hits closer to home. Any groups, food banks to donate to? Where have these people been evacuated to?

I just cleaned my kid's closet. All new things, with tags, he grew out of. Never wore. They might come handy.

I am thinking of flying there next weekend. Any information about where to bring help and decent charities will be appreciated. Cali is close to us, and one of kids lives there now.

This is just really really bad. :cry2:

My FB is down. I wonder if it is my bad luck, or due to fires.

Mine too. Worried about everyone!

ETA: Working on my laptop now but not my phone.

IMG_0356.JPG IMG_0357.JPG I am many miles from the fires...fifty miles? My car is covered in bits of ash, the air is filled with smoke. I just took these photos of the sky this morning..

I can't remember when it's been this bad.

It has been very bad here in Seattle when there were wildfires in Southern BC. I can't imagine how bad it was there, then.

My son lives in San Jose. I hope he will fly to us because even in San Jose it is difficult to breathe.

My sister lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains and they just got red flagged for this. My mom is there visiting. There are only two ways down her mountain.

I'm actually right in the middle of the firestorms but haven't been called to evacuate yet. I'm packed, ready to roll but close enough to an evacuation center that I think I'll be ok. So many people I know lost their houses or fear they will lose them. Lots and lots of people displaced. Land and houses that have been in my family since the '40's has been evacuated and my family is just hoping to have something to go back to.

Anyway--Hello. And hope others who are in the area are safe. Hug your friends and family!

Stay safe everyone and when in doubt it's better to leave than risk your life.

I know schools are being closed. It's simply shocking. My heart is out to all you are missing and have lost so much. It's almost like Twilight Zone.

I know so many people who have lost their homes and so many that don’t even know the status of their place. I am heartbroken and stressed. So many others are on evacuation notice. And they don’t have any containment yet. When is this going to end?
