Hello there. I'm new to PriceScope - was referred by a buddy. Be gentle!

I'm on the hunt for a diamond and the more I look online and learn about the shape I'm looking for (Cushion), the more confused I get. I'm hoping some more knowledgeable folks can help provide insight into where to focus my energy.

To give you some basics, I've been looking generally in the .75 ct range. I'm looking for more square than rectangular, and am fairly flexible on the C's, but have generally looked in the E-G and VVS2-VS2 ranges. I found PriceScope's average price chart, which I've found helpful, but I'm wondering more about the other characteristics that might play a bigger role in a specific Cushion's quality - the MM, depth, table, girdle - etc. How should I factor those characteristics into my consideration, if at all, for this shape?

For what it's worth, I got a quote from a local place for a .70 E VS2 6.33x 4.54mm. at about $3000. That's a little higher than the average price for that size/color/clarity, but part of my frustration stems from the fact that there's such a wide variety of prices for stones with similar characteristics and I can't seem to figure out why and whether those factors are of particular importance when it comes to whether it looks good or not.

Thanks for any advice.

If you are buying sight unseen You will want IDEALSCOPE images to help determine the stones performance. What kind of cushion are you looking for?

Thanks for the advice about Ideal Scope. Is that something that most sellers should have and be willing to share?

What do you mean by what kind of cushion am I looking for?

Thanks slg47 - that video was very helpful.

I'm wondering if there's a way to tell when looking online whether it would fall into what he calls the modern or vintage face structure categories. Is there something within the standard details that would point to it being one or the other?

if you have images that would help.
