Today I was cleaning my e-ring, husbands band, earrings and wedding band in my US cleaner for the 3rd time ever.

Everything looked fine, until I picked up my WB, and noticed the US had knocked one of diamonds out! Now, I know this is common with pave, and melee stones...but I have a channel set band, and the stone that got out is the 2nd from the end. Everything else seemed to be in place when I inspected what was left. But when I called my jeweler she told me that I have to have all the diamonds removed and reset because the whole thing might now be misaligned from the gap that one diamond left!

oh the horror! I have 14 diamonds in my band, and she said the resetting starts at $55.00 per stone!

Has anyone ever heard of channel set stones being popped by a US cleaner before? What is the average resetting fee, and I getting ripped here?

My husband cringes anytime he seems me put my jewelry in the ultrasoni,c and each time goes on to explain "how it''s works"

. So yes, it can happen and probably does more often than we know of.

As far as being ripped off, that''s a pretty steep price. You can have a whole new ring made for that amount.

That seems really steep. I would get a second opinion.

As far as when stones fall out in the US, someone (can''t remember who) brought up a good point...if it''s going to fall out, I would rather it be in the US! That way at least you have the stone.

If you put a well-made ring in a vault and only take it out to clean n the US you may never lose a stone. However most people actually wear their jewelry...and wear & tear is a part of life. Even the best-made ring can undergo pressure as you grip objects, rub other items and take bumps and dings some people may not be aware-of. Over time diamonds can become loose. It may take years. It may take one knock.

I agree that it is a bummer. I also agree that if one is going to come out the US is a good place for that to happen.

Thanks everyone for weighing in!

Fortunately, my DH was able to get my ring into the jeweler today...and, as always, the customer service was amazing. Because my rings had been inspected in March--and no defects were found at that time--they are fixing it free of charge!

Glad this is ending okay- I can''t imagine spending $1400 on a ring you didn''t buy THAT long ago.
And like everyone else said, better the ultra sonic than the street

That is great news! Phew...so much better than $55 per stone

I knocked one of my little sapphires out (banged my ring on my seatbelt) and it was second from the send of the channel. I was also surprised b/c I never heard of someone losing a channel set stone. Luckily Tacori fixed it for free. Glad you got it taken care of as well.
