I have a Tanzanite ring, and i was wondering about the value of it. i have a lot of information about it to try and make it as easy as possible.

It's a 2ct trillion cut tanzanite (8mmx8mmx5mm) it is a violetish blue, approximately a vB5 with a very good cut and it's a flawless stone.

It's set in 14ct white gold (4.89g) with 38 diamonds surrounding it and down the shoulders, these are approximately 1.2mm round and make up to a carat weight of 0.2 ct. The diamonds are vs in clarity and H in colour.

This is a unique ring, it was made for me, so no one else has a ring like it, none of that mass produced stuff.

Many thanks.

Do you have any pictures? We wouldn't be able to tell you much, you'd need to get it appraised to get an idea of actual cost, but we might be able to give you a ballpark.

i think its now my profile picture

It's impossible to value anything from a photograph and we are a consumer forum so don't value items. Having said that most of us source gemstones and settings so have an idea how much it would cost us to replicate your ring from scratch.

One thing you need to be aware of is that being unique/bespoke unfortunately doesn't add any value. So to break it down this is what we could probably buy for (and I've assumed a top quality tanzanite in this pricing):

A 2ct trillion cut of best quality = $450 per carat
Plus diamonds 0.2ct = no idea, say $300 max
Plus gold 10ct white gold

Probably $1,500-2,000 if sourced and made from scratch BUT tanzanite is routinely sold on TV shopping channels (some of them have good quality rings) and you could well find a similar ring for less.

There are 2 different appraisal numbers to consider - a replacement value and a value should you attempt to sell it, which are two completely different dollar values.

First off, who evaluated the tanzanite as vB5? Secondly, the second number is missing so I don't know if 5 refers to the tone or 5 refers to the saturation? It should look similar to this: vB5/5 or some such. Thirdly, tanzanite is trichroic so it makes it difficult to evaluate the true colour via a single avatar photograph. I don't know how much purple, blue and green it shows, which affects its value. Flawless clarity should not affect valuation much as eye clean is the only requirement.

In terms of bespoke settings, unfortunately, settings in general do not hold much value either. You are looking at the metal type, weight and melee diamond cost. What makes the difference in terms of other costs is the labour.
