Hi there,
So I have been doing research almost a year now, trying to find the perfect engagement ring, and want to first of all thank you all for your wonderful posts; I don't know where I'd be without you
My boyfriend and I started our journey at DeBeers last April wanting a yellow diamond set in yellow gold & yellow pave diamonds. However, the $18,000 price tag (plus tax) was a bit of a stretch. From there, we looked at Blue Nile, James Allen, Robbins Bros., Benchmark Jewelers, Tiffany & Co., and the list goes on. Then, after months of looking for double halo yellow diamond rings, I decided that I was a traditionalist at heart and decided to turn my gaze towards white diamonds. Here enters the Tiffany Ribbon ring. For months I was so at ease thinking that I finally found the "perfect ring" only to begin having second thoughts again after reading post after post on multiple forums.
That's when I decided that the most important thing to me was a fabulous diamond shown of it a classic, simple setting. This past weekend, we started going to brick-and-mortars since we like the idea of having a physical place to go if we have any problems. Robbins Bros. was our top contender since their customer service policies sound so great. Then we saw their diamonds.
They looked at me like I was crazy when I said that I wanted nothing less than an excellent cut since that the most important C to me. So of course instead they bring out a 1 Ct Very Good G SI2 for $10,000 and I nearly had a heart attack. Then they decided to bring out a 1.5 Ct I color I2 Good cut ring for $5,500. Loved the size and price until we looked under the microscope. Ew
Sorry to keep rambling, but this is my first post ever and I promise that I'm coming to the point soon...
After the Robbins Bros. fiasco, we decided that online was best for us, and James Allen definitely seems to be priced great and we LOVE how user-friendly their website is. Also, their customer service has been fabulous every time that we'll called in. So, without further ado, below is the diamond we are purchasing!!!
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.50-carat-k-color-vvs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-279780
Carat: 1.5
Color: K
Cut: GIA Excellent
Clarity: VVS2 (oddly, this was less expensive that S1s and S2s in the same range)
Depth: 61.5%
Table: 56%
Crown Angle: 35
Pavilion Angle: 40.6
HCA Score: 0.8
And here's the setting:
http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/platinum-2mm-knife-edge-solitaire-engagement-ring-six-prong-item-7989
Now, to find the perfect band....any thoughts on shared prong vs. channel set? Also, I'm leaning towards eternity, and was told that they can never be re-sized, just recast from scratch. Has anyone had issues with drastically changing ring sizes after giving birth, random swelling, etc.?
Thanks so much!!!!!
