Bought her this custom made ring for $5500, Its 2.05 total weight in diamonds. Center stone is a .8 while the two heart shaped diamonds on each side are .25 and then there are 42 little diamonds as a bissonete setting. She has had problems with the stones, 2 of the little stones fell out got reapired and now today the heart shaped diamond on the side fell out. She wears it everyday, non stop, works in a office all day. Is it because she is wearing it too much, maybe it is poor craftman ship from the jeweler. I need suggestions if anyone can help.

Topic suppose to say soon to be wife.

A well made ring should sustaini daily wear... Unless your sOOn to be wife is doing heavy duty work with her hands and bangs the ring a round a lot... In my opinion, maybe is a crafting issue.... sometimes, melee diamonds and such can fall off if a ring has been sized up/down more than 2 sizes...

Well it''s hard to say but if she REALLY is doing nothing strenuous with it it likely is poor craftsmanship. Do you have pictures?

Size has not changed. It has been the same since she bought it.

Was the ring custom made to her finger size? When you say "custom" do you mean you designed it and it was made from scratch? I am guessing the setting has some workmanship issues. She is not wearing it too much and it doesn't sound like she's giving it a beating. What does the jeweler who created it say the problem is?

sounds like workmanship issues.

Not the clearest picture but you can get an idea

Sorry to hear that. I would say the bench person didn''t do a quality job. But that''s just a guess, I can''t say for sure.

it sounds like craftsmanship issues to me. When did you buy it? They should repair that for you if it was recently. Rings should not just fall apart from regular office jobs and daily wear.

Keep us posted. Best of luck!!!

DX, you didn't say what metal the ring is made from.....is it platinum, by chance? If so, how much?

Platinum is mallable; it's meant to shift instead of break, but on a ring with many small stones, it can be easily displaced because the metalwork is so small to begin with. Also, check to see if the ring is out of round at all. If the ring is platinum and was subjected to pressure (i.e gripping a shopping cart, bearing weight from holding a heavy box or gripping heavy plastic grocery bags), the pressure may have been enough to push the ring out of round. That will also cause stones to become loose from their seatings.

It''s white gold and she has had it for only 13 months.

My sister had an issue with the little side diamonds on her Scott Kay falling out. Her ring was 15,000 and this still happend. She took it back to the jewlers 3x and it''s been ok since then. She''s only had it for 15 months.

I believe it is the workmanship of the ring it self. I would take it back to where you purchased it/had it custom made. They should fix it. Your lucky she did not loose the actual diamonds but chances are she will if you don''t get the problem fixed. It is a beautiful ring.

Take it in and get it inspected by someone other than the craftsman who did the work or someone working for them. That sort of design often has problems with loose stones and I"m going to assume that her work doesn’t involve things like operating a jackhammer or other such thing so there shouldn’t be 3 stones out in 13 months. There’s no way to tell what’s going on without a careful inspection of the piece and it’s likely that the jeweler will be offended at a craftsmanship judgment being made by one of his/her competitors (a reasonable concern by the way) so try hard to find an independent. It sounds like the jeweler is trying to work with you to make it right so you’re well on the way to a solution but it’s important to figure out what’s going on.
