My sister has a Birks Blue solitaire (pic below), about .5 ct. She is shopping for a wedding band and we need your help! She does not want a plain band (despite my urgings). She wants a channel set eternity band, and I directed her to Whiteflash 14 stone bead set band (1/2 eternity) - http://www.whiteflash.com/Wedding_Bands/14-Stone-Bead-Set-Band_974.htm - or the Whiteflash bead set eternity - http://www.whiteflash.com/Wedding_Bands/Bead-Set-Eternity-Band_975.htm.

Two questions - 1) what do you think about an eternity band as a wedding ring? My concern is getting dirty and the inability to resize with the full eternity. 2) does anyone have these bands and what are your comments.

Thanks!!!!

Congratulations to your sister! The birks blue is such a lovely ring. With that band, my first inclination would be to do a plan wband underneath, and a delicate eternity band above. ooooh so nice!! However, if she does want a diamond band for a wedding ring, that will also look lovely. I would choose something small and dainty, to not detract from her engagement ring. I really like that bead set band -- I don't think it makes too much difference between 3/4 or full eternity -- although 3/4's are sometimes more comfortable to wear, and are certainly easier to size -- so I'd choose the 3/4. That would be a wonderful, classic look.
Wish her well!

I think a channel set eternity band would look lovely with her e-ring. She might also want to check out facets, they have a wide variety of well-made eternity bands in channel and other styles. I like the idea of an eternity ring as a wedding band because it looks nice when worn alone and also there is no spinning issue. However, as you mentioned you can''t usually re-size them. As far as getting gunky, this is up to your sister. If she uses an ultrasonic frequently this should keep the ring plenty clean, but if she is one of those people who never clean their rings then it will get pretty gunky.

Thanks, Kcourselle. The stuff on facets looks very nice - lots of selection. Do you/anyone else have some experience with facets?

If you do a search for facets or signedpieces many threads will come up. I think many people here are happy with their rings from them.

Lots of people here have bands from Facets. They are nice quality. I would go with a half eternity because of the inability to resize a full eternity. Most people do not stay the same size over a lifetime. I think a channel set band would be a beautiful choice for her ring, though!

I have a channel set eternity wedding band (with princesses) and love it. It is very comfortable but I do wish I had gone with a sizing bar.

Tacori, where did you buy your band? What do you think of princesses in the band paired with a RB solitaire?

LC, I had mine custom made but they sell similar ones at most jewelry stores. I am not a fan of the spaces RB makes when channel set. I think it would work together even though they are different cuts b/c it they are so small.

The next question is full eternity or 1/2 eternity. I hate spinning myself, so I am inclined to say she should get the full eternity. BUT sizing issues arise. For me, I have never had to resize my ering/wedding band, even after pregnancy, so I doubt she will have an issue as well. What is everyone''s opinion on full eternity vs. 1/2???

Aren''t there 3/4 eternities and ones that are something like 90% eternity, with just a sizing bar in the back?

I wish I had gotten it made with a sizing bar, so I guess 3/4 of the way. Not only for resizing issues but someday, long after I am around I''ll have to hope my daughter, grand daughter, someone has the same ring size as me! Also with age sometimes your joints/knuckles swell.

That might be a nice compromise on the sizing issue, although I do love the look of the full eternity (oh right, this is for my sister

Thanks for everyone''s input!

I''d also agree on the 3/4 or even ''full'' eternity except for a small sizing bar (about the width of 2-3 melee stones?).

I''m in my mid-40s, as are many of my friends. One of them has just discovered she has thyroid issues, and it''s affecting her weight.

Another seems to have just developed an allergic reaction to plastic (i.e. soda bottles, plastic storage containers) and her hands can swell up in a matter of a half-hour. Never happened until about 4 weeks ago, and now it''s happened about half a dozen times.

These are instances neither expected, so things can unfortunately crop up. I''d prefer to have the latitute.

I also very much agree with Tacori on the gifting possibility. My mom''s ring is a size 4; it''s far too small for me. I''m glad that it''s not eternity style so I''ll be able to size it and wear it someday.

FYI, I am looking at an eternity ring style but am going to have it made with a sizing bar. They said the bar would be 4 mm and I would be able to size it 2 sizes up or down.
