Ok, so now that I have a setting in mind. I need to find the next to perfect Asscher. I''ve received a few specs on some, but haven''t received any pictures.

I posted this one before, unfortunately I can''t get any pictures. I know that you can''t tell with the specs, but does this one have potential to make a drive to take a look at in person, 2.5hr away?
1.71 carat
Shape & Cut: square emerald
measurements: 6.53 - 6.51 x 4.54 mm.
Total depth: 69.7%
Table Width: 65%
Crown height: 15%
Pavillion depth: 52%
girdle thickness: medium polished
polish: very good
symmetry: very good
culet: none
clarity: vvs2

graining: nil
flourescence: none

Also I have these, any of these have potential?
6.70x6.55x4.53 , 1.8ct, H , VVS1
Depth: 69.2%, Table 64%, Thick , Ex polish, VG symmetry

6.62x6.49x4.48 , 1.7ct , H, VS1,
69% depth, 64% table

6.53x6.47x4.40 , 1.7ct, H, VS1, 68.5%, 63%

Thanks for the help, this is very stressful!!!!

If you drive the 2.5 hours will you be able to see just the one or some of the others also?
With what little the numbers tell you they all have potential.

Just one. LOL. Argghhhh!!!

Quick question. Are Asschers normally pretty square? B/c some of the ones listed above, are pretty off square.

How do you mean? All the numbers you posted show square dimensions.

These days, the term Asscher cut generally refers to a square(ish) emerald cut. I believe it is now used more generically, and a bit loosely (so the stones may not be expressly "square") unless it refers to a diamond that comes from the original Joseph Asscher design that had specific parameters for the cut. The Asscher business (still family?) also has a patented, newer, Royal Asscher Cut.

Also, I could be wrong, but, I believe that a GIA report will call anything Asscher-esque as "square emerald cut."

I''ve seen some not-quite-square Asscher type diamonds that I actually preferred over some perfectly square Asschers. The subtly elongated shape (which I don''t think most people would notice at all on your hand mounted in a ring) seems to flatter my hand more than a perfect square shape.

Looks like you may be on to some lovely stones... a pity you may have to drive so far to see just one. Good luck finding your perfect beauty!

A lot of people here don''t like the windmill shape.
They prefer the more even tapering kind.

The center brightness looks questionable, if you like the windmills talk to someone while they are viewing the stone live.

storm, in your opinion, how is the windmill suppose to look like? are the ones shown, too fat? Too uneven?

thanks for the help, i''m clueless!!!

Traditionally windmills tapper in towards the center, not square then taper in on the last step.
Here is a computer generated image of tapering windmills.

Personally while I like the tapering windmills better the blockly kind don't bug me that much.
It is a personal preference.

awesome. thanks for the image, really helped!

ok, i''m going in person to take a look at the stone. is there anything i should look for? any signs of a not so good stone? this is going to be the fist diamond i''ve ever looked at in person, so i''m pretty sure it''s going to look good to me, since i have no experience. so anything you could recommend to me to look at would be a great help.

Do you know what the crown height is?

Put it in a stone holder and on your finger.
Look for patterns.
Do the patterns please you?
Is the very center bright?
Does it look 10 miles deep when you look at it close in diffused lighting?
Does it dance with fire in direct lighting? (sunlight and spotlights)
Does it speak to you?

Those are the questions to answer.

This sounds like it should be a song. Can''t you just hear it? I''d listen to that!

Now leaving, because I have nothing useful to add!

here''s the sarin report. does this help with anything?

15.4% Crown height is excellent.

does this picture show anything of value?

i went to see the stone yesterday, it was pretty impressive. altho, this is the first diamond i''ve seen, so i''m pretty sure i could be like that to any diamond. but this one was really pretty. im not sure what to do, keep looking?

yep the picture helps, it looks good.
The center picks up light fine.

Did it speak to you?
If it did go for it.
If it didn''t then don''t.
The right asscher for you will scream I am yours.
