I was in Toronto this weekend and I just wanted to say that while I was there, I finally saw a Royal Asscher in person. It was a 1.5, G color VVS (I`m pretty sure that`s what the saleperson said - the whole thing was a blur).
If anybody has any doubt about the performance of a Royal Asscher (fire, brilliance), let me tell you something; I was blown away. Seriously. I am now an Asscher lover above anything else. What a classic cut. It has this way of pulling you inward into its depth. I stared at it for what seemed like an eternity, until my friend started nudging me away, embarassed because of the trance that I was in.
I`m in love. Just thought that I`d share this experience with you all. Nobody I know has a diamond fixation like I do.
Oh, and the price: $46,000 (Canadian)
Is this the avarage cost of a RA? I know Birks has a high markup but does a stone like the RA set standards for its prices on their own stones or can Birks sell them at whatever price they want?
I`m curious to know.
Thanks,
Cachette
