This is weird. It's winter and cool. I haven't gained weight. My hands don't swell. All of a sudden my rings seem too small. I'm having a hard time forcing them over my knuckle. After the knuckle they fit fine as my figures are not fleshy. I cannot figure out why.

Has this happened to anyone? I am 60!!! I hate to get them sized and am wondering if this is permanent. Or do joints change that quickly.

My brother's knuckles enlarged from arthritis, even though he has little or no pain. Do you see knots, or are they just bigger?

You know, the exact same thing has been happening to me? I actually started a thread about it a few days ago, and got a ton of good replies - everything from antidepressants to exercise to takeout (ie, salt) to more general dehydration to a bunch of other things. The only big differences in my life have been that I've been trying to taper down off Wellbutrin, that I've been taking a lot of aspirin because of pressure headaches, and that I *have* been eating a lot of takeout because, well, reasons one and two. So the last few days I've been making an effort to avoid the latter two, and I *think* it's resulting in my fingers going back down to normal ... but I'll give it another few days to see for sure. In the absence of pain, I don't think arthritis is necessarily the first reason to consider ... maybe consider any other changes to your general lifestyle first? And also, see a doctor and see what they say, if arthritis is a serious concern because of family history or whatnot?

Perhaps it's the higher-salt in holiday food.

I once read that barometric pressure can affect joints. Actually makes them expand. This is why "uncle Bob's shoulder" or "aunt Sophie's knee" can tell you when it's going to rain Any storms in your area?

I feel pressure changes because I live very close to sea level. I get sleepy, even though the sky is blue. Sure enough, the weatherman says rain. I feel best when there's a high pressure ridge on top of my area I would love to see more research into this, I think weather patterns affect people in many ways.

Thanks for your ideas. I take no prescriptions and eat no special diet. I guess I will wait awhile and see if the problem goes away. I don't want to have to resize my 3-sided pave LM ring. And I might end up putting my WF band up for sale. Oh well...

I've heard of DDS (Diamond Shrinkage Syndrome) but never PSS (Platinum Shrinkage Syndrome)!!

I have no suggestions, just wanted to say the same thing happened to me! I noticed one day in September that I couldn't fit my ring over my knuckle. I then noticed my knuckle felt and looked a bit bigger on one side (not enough that anyone else would notice). It doesn't hurt, but I guess these things can happen as a person gets older.
I was freaking out, thinking that I would have to resize all my rings. I did resize a few and decided any new rings I buy will be the larger size.
Anyway, after a few days, I was able to wear my rings....hope you are able to also.
