I don''t wear yellow gold so much anymore so I decided to try having my jeweler rhodium plate my opal ring. What do you think? I bought this ring on a trip to Australia a few years back and I thought an opal would probably look as good in white gold as it does in yellow gold. I just hope the finish lasts.

This shows what it looked like before in a picture I took with my other yellow gold rings.

HI:

Very pretty collection! My pal is an opal fiend--and has many beauties in her recently expanding collection, so I admired yours also.

cheers--Sharon

Your ring is beautiful. I love the colors in your opal. My hubby and I are planning a trip to Australia in July. We will be staying in Sydney. We are so excited about it. Can''t wait to see the adorable Koala Bears.

Sundial, lovely jewelry. I brightened your photo a bit to be able to see more details.

THANK YOU PriceScope. You are the best.

Thanks for the nice comments. And thanks pricescope for fixing my picture! Now it is easier to see the difference between the yellow gold and the white gold.

And Linda you are going to LOVE Australia! Lots of fabulous black opals there, but not cheap I'm afraid.

That is what I was afraid of. My mother gave my hubby and I some money for our 25th anniversary. Even though it was in March, this is going to be our special trip. She wants us to buy something there from her. I was thinking of buying a small pendant for myself. Wonder how much that will cost.

Wish I could take one of the Koala''s home.

I have a penpal I am going to meet for the first time, who lives there. We are so looking forward to it.

Nice opal!

Any plating will eventually wear off. The time required for that to happen depends on the the thickness of the plating, the hardness of the metal (rhodium is pretty hard) and the amount of wear. Replating isn''t very costly and you should expect to have it done every few years with moderate wear.

Thank you for your response on this Richard. Hopefully the plating was well done and will last a few years. I was just concerned that it might have to be replated every few months!

You have some beautiful things in your Gallery pictures!!!

Beautiful opal! I think it looks lovely in white. I would also LOVE to hear more about the first ring with the rubies? on each side of the center stone....I really like that design!

Glad you like that one FireGoddess! I have had that ring for several years. It is 18 kt. yellow gold with a .42 carat princess cut diamond in the center flanked by ruby baguettes and then small invisible channel set princess cut diamonds. It has proven to be a very durable ring design.
