Hi Everyone!
I have been trying to post this update since 12/2/03 but something has been going wrong when I try to submit. But anyway, my proposal turned out beautiful. I don't think I would have had it any other way. I'll try to make it as short as possible but with as many details as possible.
OKAY......
If you read my previous post you know that I was suspect that my girlfriend's family was expecting an engagement in the near future but the just didn't know when or where.
I got my girlfriend's family to come from Houston,TX
to New Orleans, LA., thinking they were only coming down for the State Farm Bayou Classic Football Game which was the Saturday after "Turkey Day". Her parents along with 17 other friends and relatives, came down that Friday. I hadn't yet asked for their daughters hand in marriage yet so they knew it probably wouldn't be until I got that out of the way (Very traditional family). They were only going to be in town from Fri. to Sun. morning. So Friday we did the usual things everybody does in N.O. (Riverwalk, Bourbon St., French Quarter) that pretty much wraps up Friday.
Saturday (Gameday/Proposal Day): I made reservations at a nice romantic restaurant with dim lighting and candles. Which we all went to eat after the game (which we won by the way 44-41
) Before we left for the game I came up with a good excuse to leave the hotel room, made a phone call to her family members and asked them to meet me at her parents room. Once we all met there as soon as I began to ask for her hand in marriage the phone rings
...... Guess who it is
. Her aunt answers the phone and she gets suspecious as to why she was in her parents room. So she ask if they had seen me. Of course, I told them to say "No"
So she says: "I'm on my way down their and I'll just leave a note for when he comes back." So I panic, and tell them i'm gonna unfortunately rush this conversation. (I had maybe 5-10 minutes before she got their it was a large hotel and we were on different floors. Everyone left the room except her parents and her aunt!) This is where everyones advice at pricescope comes in to play. So I told them how much I cared about their daughter/neice and that I was planning on proposing but wanted to talk to them and ask their daughter hand in person before I did. I told them I had been wanting to talk to them but didn't want to do it over the phone. They were soooooo excited, her aunt asked if I was going to propose this weekend while everyone was together. I told her: "no because I had not yet purchased the ring. I'll probably do it around X-Mas or New Years." A little disappoint came about, but that was the plan!
So once we arrive at the restaurant I slip off to the restroom (supposedly
) and met the manager in the other side of the restaurant and gave him the ring. He told me the would take care of it from their and just to pick up on his cue.
Now at the table she new I had a give for her in the car in a gift bag, and she asked was I going to give it to her the next day, I told her she was more than welcome to open it now if she liked. So I give her the giftbag which has a 10inch tall, silver octagon shaped box, inside the box were three black boxes wrapped in tissue symbolizing her sorority colors. She opens box 1 which has a beautiful watch she's been wanting, then box 2 which contains a Princess diamond tennis bracelet(White Gold). Now box 3, Wrapped in a Whitehall Jewelers Gift box, (Her hands start shaking on this one.) She knows this is one of the store where we looked for rings at. She opens it and ... no ring, its a pair of 1 carat princess cut W.G. earrings.
At this point everyone is paying for their food so we can leave the waiter takes my ticket last and says to me: "Thank you all and let me go and get your change sir. I'll be right back"..... pats me on the back!
He returns with the manager who asks if everything was okay, everyone's response was "YES!" He says good and mentioned they were offer all guest a complimentary dessert for customer appreciation day. So he gives everyone a foam dessert dish to go. Lastly, he gives me her container which was different, it had the ring box in but no dessert. The ring box had a light in it so her box was glowing. She had now idea what was going on... at that point I opend the box I moved my chair to get on one knee, everyone in the restaurant takes their glasses and start tapping them with their spoons as if about to propose a toast. The waiter told them what was about to happen as he went to the tables. So I go down to my knee and before I start the proposal, and some guy jokingly hollers out "DON'T DO IT!"
everyone laughs ...... It didn't mess anything up at all. The hands start shaking again she starts tearing up mind-you she has not seen the ring yet. Then I pull out the beautiful 1.4 carat, White Gold, 24 twin princess cut diamond ring. It was so beautiful! And before I can finish she lets the tears fall and says: "Yes! Baby of course I'll marry you!" That made me the happiest man in the State of Louisiana. Afterwards the manager gave us a bottle of champaigne, my dad and her dad proposed a toast. And everyone in the restaurant started coming around to see her ring and congratulate us, Several women came up to me with tears in their eyes and told me how romantic it was.
Thanks you all for your suggestions and votes in my poll!
Happy Holidays to everyone here at pricescope!
