I posted this over in Rockytalky--it''s an OEC, K-colored, VVS2, 1.95 cts, in a platinum setting (basket) w/ engraving... Here I''m trying on a hearts on fire half-eternity band...that doesn''t actually belong to me!
This photo was taken before the jeweler engraved the prongs. Now the prongs are engraved with a foliate pattern, and there''s a bit of milgrain as well.
The stone has medium blue fluorescence, which may help it. But the body color is scarcily noticeable most of the time. You have to really try--and only under bright sun--to find the yellow tint.
Hey hey Kimikocat, your ring is spectacular! I just adore the engraving on the shank and the sides, and would love to see some pics of your basket after you had it engraved ...
I''m at a sales meeting this week, and I don''t have my e-ring with me...so I will take more detailed shots this weekend, once I''m back home. If you take a good look at the setting, the basket joins the shank in a way that''s just a bit clumsy, but the engraving work helps redeem it, a little bit. I''ll post some detailed images of the engraved basket and prongs and you can see what I mean.
BTW--I took the ring with me when I visited Larry Van Craeynest in San Francisco, and he brought out a gorgeous silver piece engraved by his father. It was amazing to see the difference b/t the engraving on my shank, and the very three-dimensional work done by the van Craeynests. My ring was hand-engraved--all the sides are asymmetrical because my engraver followed his eye--but Larry''s father practiced an even more refined form of hand-engraving, and his leaves and flowers have a bit more life. There aren''t many artists of that caliber left...
