My uncle passed away in December. I inherited his gopher tortoise.
He's had her since 1968. Her name is Uncle Hairy. So sweet. I never really thought about having a reptile. She is quickly changing my mind. My cats just don't know what to think.

GemQueen,
Cute as he is, the video shows your real name, hence you are trackable. I would remove the link ASAP for privacy reasons. I think it might be against PS policy too for the same reason.

Hi,

How nice and interesting. How big do they grow and how old do they get?

Annette

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your uncle, but congratulations on your new pet! I'm not a reptile person, but I have a desert tortoise (similar to your gopher tortoise) that I've had since I was 5... they make surprisingly neat pets.little kids are just fascinated by them. The best part about my tortoise is how easy they are to care for. I never have to worry about them destroying my sofa, stealing food from the counters or house training (theses are all things that my dogs and cats have done). It looks like she is going to be perfectly happy in her new yard. Thank you for taking her!!!! I'm sure that your uncle would be very happy to know that she is being taken care of by you, obviously she was special to him.

I'm sorry about your Uncle. How great you took the Tortoise.

My daughter's 3rd grade had one as a class pet. The teacher took it home over the summer but over other breaks let the tortoise go home with students based on a lottery (with parent approval). My daughter won the spring break lottery and we had a Tortoise visitor for 10 days. It was really fun! I think I enjoyed it as much as my kids. My kitties were fascinated when we let it roam around the kitchen.

I just cannot figure out how to delete the Youtube video!!

Your comments recorded on the video are so cute - it's like listening to a new parent! I'm glad you're giving Hairy a great new home!

It'll be interesting to see whether Hairy grows now that she has more room to roam...

As to the video - just ask the admins to remove the link (It may take a while for them to get to you, though). Could you re-post to a different youtube account that doesn't include your personal information?

Awe, thank you. It's like she just got commuted from a death sentence. She hasn't been out since 1968. She weighs 9.2 pounds. I'm not sure she'll get any bigger. She roamed around his house and wasn't caged so to speak. She is at least 50, and can live to be 100 in captivity. I just want to give her the best life. I would rather call her Harriet, but my aunt says she answers to Uncle Hairy. Who knows.

Gem Queen, I am sorry about your uncle but I know he is resting easy knowing you have his most precious treasure.

Awwww Uncle Hairy is such a sweet girl! Thank you for the video. I really enjoyed watching her enjoy being outside for the first time in so many decades.

Thank you for agreeing to take care of her and give her love and security and a warm home! :appl: :appl: :appl:
