I just bought this diamond--I am so excited. Marie and Charles at GOG were absolutely amazing, and willing to take videos and pictures for me too. I'd love to hear your gold and setting rec's. I'm leaning towards either yellow gold or white, but I'm not sure. Marie did send me a couple of great pictures on types of gold, which I'll attach below as well. I'm interested in a bezel setting most likely, either a pendant or a right hand ring.

Here's a video too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYNwqQzPlbU&feature=c4-overview&list=UUe_V0Cpb5TXhi2j80WFLuLA

Here they are! What do you think? All opinions will be greatly appreciated!

My preference is the bottom option - is that RG or unplated WG?? Can they show you your stone set in an unplated WG option?? That bottom picture just looks softer and more elegant, IMO. But the YG is pretty darn amazing, too!

BTW - FABULOUS diamond!!!!

It looks whitest in the yellow gold setting - which I never would have guessed. It could just be the photographs of course. Gorgeous diamond!!!

Enerchi, thank you!! I am so excited to see it in person.

About the last setting: I'm honestly not sure what color gold is represented. I assumed the last one was rose gold, but--I have another shot of the diamond in an obviously rose gold setting, which I'll attach below, so it may well be unplated WG. I think that unplated WG might be a really good choice; Yssie's bracelet is in unplated WG, and I love the warm colors with the WG. However, my diamond has a lot more color, which makes it a little trickier.

Rosenbloom, thank you! It does seem nice in the white gold, more so than I expected. I'm thinking that I really should get this thing in person before I make a choice, but I also want to wear it ASAP and it'll be so much faster if I can make a fast choice and have it shipped after its set--such a dilemma, I know!

Hi Indy, beautiful diamond! I guess the question is what do you want to bring out in this diamond? Do you want to play up the warm color (that would be my choice) or make it look as white as possible? My vote though is to first see it in person.

absolutely yellow! The Rose gold id like if your stone had brown undertones but clearly has a delicious yellow hue. the white doesnt seem to flatter either. the yellow looks B E A UTIFUL

Love the cut of that stone! Beautiful chunky monkey arrows.

Agreed! One of the best cut old stones I have seen!

Are you setting it in a solitaire? If so, I'd probably lean toward yellow gold. But if you are thinking about a halo or other antique setting, my opinion might be totally different.

Missy, Niel, Dreamer and Diamondseeker--thank you all! I am so super excited. I watched it online for a little while, but the video GOG posted to their Youtube site convinced me that I had to have it.

Missy--I think I'd like to play up the warmth. I do love warm diamonds, especially in old cuts, and this is more of a "fun" piece for me so I'm happy to make it something more "out of the box."

Niel--I do love the YG and it was my first instinct after I saw Marie's pictures.

Dreamer--Thank you!! I love love love the chunky facets.

Diamondseeker--Thank you so much! I love it too. I'm thinking a simple miligrain bezel, no halo. If a pendant, my idea is to set it with an amethyst bullet above the diamond, similar to this http://www.etsy.com/listing/104877933/amethyst-bullets-gemstone-cabochon?ref=sr_gallery_6&ga_search_query=cabochon+amethyst+bullet&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_search_type=all Or, I'd like to set it into a ring, with an interesting bezel.

the stone is magnificent! it has.. warmth.. and dazzle!! that's it dazzling... also I also like the 3rd setting.. 18 k gold with the rhodium(?) would be something I may look at.. I love how they send you a video.. that is awesome.

adding: I would have it made into a pendant, but then again.. I don't have one!!

I agree with Niel that the YG looks very flattering with your stone. But you would have to see it in person. It also depends on the rest of your jewelry and whether you like to mix metals.

My OEC has a very warm color as well: U-V. I just received my new setting in platinum and I love it!!

I do like it with the yellow gold although the third setting is much "softer".

Lovely stone.

I do like the softness of the rose gold, but since you're bezelling (great choice) I think a deep yellow gold would give the piece a very rich look.

My OEC is a QR and I set it in 18kWG w FG melee on the shank. It definitely brings out the yellow warmth of the diamond, but that's what I wanted to have happen.

Do you know what effect you'd like to be bringing out? do you want it to look warm? or look white? that will influence which metal you go with. Sometimes, the unplated WG is a good choice for just letting the diamond "BE"---as in --- let it just be its own sparkly unique entity! I hope Marie can give you a picture of the stone sitting in unplated WG - and even at that, there are different alloys which can influence how it looks.

Tekate, Acinom, Sparks, Smith and Enerchi--thank you all!

Tekate--thank you! I do like the warmth too, and Marie and Charles were really amazing for sending me videos. As soon as I saw it in action, I was sold!

Acinom--Do you find that the platinum makes the U-V seem warmer because of a contrast, or cooler because of the light reflecting back form the setting? I'm on my way to check out your thread now!

Sparks and Smith--Thank you! I'm leaning YG too. It helps to have a vote of confidence in that direction.

Enerchi--I'd like to play up the warmth. You definitely make a good point about letting the diamond "be" in an unplated WG. Right now, I'm torn between the YG and WG, though leaning yellow. I'm assuming your Q looked yellower in the WG since you wanted to play that up--was that the case?

What a luscious stone! Congrats for snagging it! As for settings, I think it looks richest in the YG so that's my vote.

Gorgeous diamond!!! When looking at the pictures my first choice was the yellow gold, followed closely by the last picture which I am 99% sure is rose gold.

IndyLady: I know for sure my stone doesn't look so good in RG because of the yellow undertones. I am not sure about YG; my stone has never been set in YG. I like the platinum as it brings out the best qualities of a lower colored OEC. Whether my stone faces up rather white or very creamy depends on the light/environment. I must say, from the top down you hardly see any metal in my ring.
I feel that the YG really flatters your stone!!

I'm an outlier - I love the middle (white) option!!! Good luck with your project!!

I have a sneaky suspicion that I know this gem! am I right indy? :)!

I feel she shines best in yellow gold.

I think it looks great in yellow gold.

Gorgeous diamond! I think it would look best in unplated wg.

What a pretty stone Indy!!

Of those three the YG is my preference by far. The warmth of the metal complements the warmth of the stone :sun:
The RG turns the stone... greenish, almost, to my eyes, on my monitor... I'm not sure I can explain what I'm seeing!
I like the white metal combo the least - the icy white seems to argue with the ivory tint of the stone.

I am, however, ultimately very predictable - I'd put it in unplated WG, the closest colour match to the body colour of the stone (as viewed through the pavilion) as possible ::)

Here's a pic of some of my rings. The five bands in the middle are all different alloys of 18k unplated WG. For a W/X that faces up bright like yours I think D or E could be lovely options... or high-karat YG for a more exotic look?

metals_yssie_1.png
A - PT950/Ru
B - 18k (custom piece) from DBL, exact composition: "Palladium-WG" - don't know exact alloy
C - 18k WG (custom piece) from RDG, exact composition: [75% Fine Gold] [17% Palladium] [5% Pure Silver] [3% Platinum]
In-person the RDG alloy (C) looks slightly warmer than (B)
D - 18k WG (stock piece) from e-wb, exact composition: ? (Exact colour match for WF & BGD's stock 14k WG unplated - like the bezels on my bracelet)
E - 18k WG (custom piece) from WF, exact composition: [75%AU] [9.8%CU] [9.8%NI] [5.22%ZN]
F - 18k WG (custom piece) from e-wb, exact composition: [75%AU] [16.5%CU] [4%NI] [4.5%ZN]
In-person (F) is slightly yellower and pinker than (E), especially under fluorescents
G - 14k YG
