So, I've always wanted a Cartier tank, ever since I saw that photo of Jackie Kennedy with her tank, all those years ago. I found a really cool version of the Cartier Tank, the Basculante, which flips over and tucks away inside it's case to protect itself. Originally designed in the 1930's for fitness buffs, it was revived by Cartier briefly in the 1990's. Most people use the closed up side for an engraving, but mine does not have any engraving (yet!) It's stainless steel, which I think is to maintain the integrity of the little struts and parts that hold it up. I have seen some in gold on the auction sites, though. It makes a cool little bedside clock, for those with excellent vision (not me). It's a tiny thing, the actual watch face is about the size of half a postage stamp. Very cute.

For the watch guys; it's just a quartz, sorry . . . but honestly, I prefer it since I hate winding watches.

I really like it, it's a tank with a twist!

Here's a MOVIE of the men's model (larger) showing the cool pivoting action;

Here's a review of the ladies model:

Just thought I'd share, I'm loving it, it's very elegant.

Thank you, ame, decodelighted, MissGotRocks and stargurl78! You guys are very kind!

MissGotRocks-I'll post some more wrist shots, but my wrist is not going get any better looking than that one you see there. :D

It's interesting (well, to me it is, anyway) that they made the men's version with watchworks instead of quartz, and with a fancy turned enamel dial, but the women's was plainer (at least in the steel version, anyway). The men's has the Cartier signature in the VII, while in the women's it's in the X. It was an interesting month+ of research!

That is SO cool! I love it!!!

I love it! Such a classic shape and dial!

DandiAndi; Thank you!
Hi Danny!: Yup, I'm kind of a sucker for Cartier. ;))
AmysBling; Thank you, and thank you again!
Tyty333; I love stuff that looks the same as it did in the 1930's :D
Artdecogirl; Thank you!
Luv2sparkle; Thanks! It was a pretty decent birthday
Tigian: This is a first for me too!
DF: Nah, he's into ultra-modern watches. I got him this one for his birthday; http://www.questodesign.com/shop/proddetail.php?prod=jacob_jensen_572/582_watch&cat=60
JewelFreak: It was one of those "maybe, someday" dreams for me :))
Enerchi: This will probably be the only watch I buy for many, many years.
Skippy: Thank you!
Junebug17: Thank you! I'm not into watches as a hobby, I just wanted a Cartier, that little sapphire always got to me. They are usually SO expensive, used is the way to go.

You guys are so nice! DH and DD are totally burned out on it, and don't want to hear another word about it.

That's what I love about PS; there's always someone who understands your enthusiasm.
:appl:

At the risk of seriously wearing out my welcome, I wanted to show it transforming.
