I ordered a custom semi mount from Juan at Van Graff to accomodate a diamond we purchased through Whiteflash. Here are some pics of the "work in progress. The center diamond is a 1.71 ct premium cut princess J color, VS1 Clarity. I never thought I was a clarity person, as I have had SI2''s, but I love that I can''t see ANYTHING in this stone (it''s currently still loose).

Last one until I can get the stones set. That''s proving more difficult than I thought. I can''t send the diamonds to Juan to set internatioally.. I''m dealing with LEsley at Whiteflash to get the diamonds set, but I cant'' get the diamonds insured loose. I heard I can do this temporarily with Jewlers Mutual? Does anyone know if this is true?

Ok, that was didn''t go to well.

Wow sizzle, that looks like it will be a stunning setting!
The finish looks very pretty even at this stage, and I love seeing this style with a euro shank!

Double check with WF but if you bought the stones for them they should be insured while being set if they are setting them but double check I could be so wrong

Beautiful setting BTW love the fluidity of it :)

Lovely setting

Can you please list the metal? Thanks!

Thanks everyone. This is platinum. I have issues with nickel. Luckily I placed the order before the prices went INSANE! I am trying to work something out with Whiteflash for setting now. In the meantime. I read somewhere that Jewelers mutual will insure it if I send the receipt for the mounting and the stones.

Juan took these photos, but I'm hoping whoever sets it will do a photo shoot for me so I can post in the "show me the ring" section.

I''ve had trouble getting a straight answer out of Jeweler''s Mutual about anything that''s slightly out of the ordinary. I asked my question and got a response that didn''t answer my question -- I replied saying so and restated the question, and got ANOTHER response that didn''t answer my question. Oh well.

If you find a good rep there, let me know who you talked to!

Very pretty setting!

That''s correct. They insure it as an entire piece, and it''s then covered while the stones are set.

All you have to do is submit receipts for the setting and stones, and you should be all set.

OK, I had this set today. I am in Arizona for business and they had this place that would repair/set fix jewelry while you wait. I even watched it being done.. which is quite fascinating.. The verdict??? I don''t like it! The way the mounting was built causes gaps in between the stones which the bench said he wasn''t able to "fix". I''m so sad and now I''m out the $350 in setting fees AND the money for the mounting!!! Pics from my crappy camera phone (Didn''t bring my digital on this trip) to follow.

Oh no, what a shame that you are not happy with it! It is such a beautiful setting...I am sorry!

Dana,
I am very upset about it too. I wanted the ring to look like the Vatche style trellis from the top. and it doesn''t

. Can anyone suggest someone who could do it right? Juans work is non refundable.

I would be concerned its the people who set it, rather than the actual piece??

I thought about that too, but when I took it to another jeweler for a second opinion, he said it''s the design of the ring. Apparently the side prongs should have been placed narrower than the center prongs. am very upset about this.,

It''s pretty clear from the original photos of your mounting that there would be gaps. I just assumed that was the way you designed it? You can see the large space between the side and center prongs.

I am sorry; I hope another jeweler can fix it to your liking, keep us posted. hugs.

NO. I did not design it this way. I thought the gaps would go away in setting the ring was supposed to look like this

To get the effect you want, I think the ring maker should have the stones before work is started. It looks like the side stones have to tuck in under the main stone, and the side stone prongs have to be inside the main stone prongs. It might take an exceptional goldsmith to achieve the effect you want.

I don''t think it will take anything exceptional? The Vatche ring is exactly what OP wanted, only with a euro shank. The bottom of the shank design should not have dictated the prong placement.

If I were OP (after settling the issue with Juan) I would contact Vatche and ask them to make a ring with the euro shank. I bet they would for a custom quote. I''d also have them set the stones.

This setting from van graf also shows gaps. The difference I can see is that the prongs are large and those of the side stones aren''t "tucked" into the center stone and made of thinner wire than the desired setting you posted.

It is discussed in the OP''s other thread, nearly all 3 stone rings have small gaps by nature, and this is enhanced with princess more than round stones. I have a RB 3 stone and there are small gaps - it doesn''t bother me.
Personally, I think the ring is stunning and the problem lies with having a different person not familiar with the setting to set the stones (kinda like cutting corners)..
I''m really sorry Sizzle, I''m on your side, thats just mho.
I also think Juan''s offer is Very generous to make you the new ring (I understood it as he is not going to charge more..?)

The setting looks really well-made and pretty, but I agree and I personally don''t like the gaps either. Hopefully it can be reduced a little. Even just reducing the gaps a little would make a big difference.

I finally got some photos

The diamonds look yellowish due to the photos being taken at sunset. Awesome in person, but yucky on film. The side view is fabulous!
