Yay! I just got the last piece to complete my dining room! Now we just have to finish putting the baseboards back up, and maybe hang something else on the walls... What do you all think? Any suggestions as to how to accessorize the buffet?

It''s beautiful! I love getting new furniture. It is tied with new jewelry. Congrats.

how lovely, tuckins!

i''m sure there''s many and various ways to decorate the top of your new buffet, but i''d say ''start with fresh flowers''. i try to always have fresh flowers in the house - and you can''t go wrong with them. fresh flowers next to a small combination of shells - real and silver - makes a beautiful arrangement. i''ve collected a half dozen antique silver shells over the years. i put them out with a half dozen shells from the whitsunday islands in australia, and it''s a beautiful old/modern combo that looks both warm and interesting. lovely on the buffet, or in a bowl on the buffet. add fresh flowers in a contrasting height vase and - lovely!

oh gees, tuckins! i''m currently in australia, and anything i''ve wanted to post here, i''ve had to ask tim to take photos of! since i just posted photos of my new diamond this morning (which he had to take for me and email) i''m not really game to ask him to start dragging the antique shells out of the cupboards and take more!

i *can*, however, show you one shot (not terribly helpful) of what''s on my side board currently....

on one end i have a wooden tray filled with antique shelley teacups, saucers and plates. just beyond that are two sepia colored glass candle holders. the white thing you can *just* see beyond that is the edge of a rough hewn marble and wrought iron cheese board which sits there permanently for parties (the darn thing is too heavy to lift!) and beyond that, out of shot, is a mosaic stained glass bowl i designed myself and had commissioned. the whole thing is about 12'' long.

see? no help at all... sorry!

Looks very pretty!

I love your new buffet. I like clean lines in furniture.

I think a sculptural vase in the middle and some smaller pieces on either side could be lovely. Or..... you could make it your cocktail area. Decanter, ice bucket, tray, pretty glasses, etc.

Tuckins, I love your floor! What is that? The color and the grain is just what I''d love to have.

tuckins, I love it!!! the lines are great and the proportion is fab, not too big, not too small:-)

Initial thoughts:

Lower the artwork
panels on the windows
fresh flowers on the dining table
lamp on the left side of the buffet

Thanks for the tips. We are still doing construction in the house, so we aren''t ready to put all the knick knacks out yet, just getting ideas. I did have flowers on the table, but they had seen better days so I threw them out.

Tuckins, that is lovely! I like the dark wood. I always think a buffet needs two buffet lamps and then like was said, fresh flowers or some other sort of centerpiece, fruit in a cool bowl or ? Very nice!

Thank you! The floor is Bruce hardwood flooring. It''s Oak, but I don''t quite remember the actual color. We got it at Home Depot about 3 years ago and installed it ourselves...

Definitely love the mirror! I would love to put a nice big round mirror right between those windows. (The art work that is currently there will not be staying, I just put it there so the room wouldn't look so empty!)

Ooooh! I just noticed, are those windows with a pic between them above the buffet? If that is the case you should get a tall mirror and center it above the buffet between the windows then get a large arrangement with candles in it so they reflect in the mirror into the room. A tray with different heights of pillars would work. New furniture is so fun!

Exactly what I was thinking! I can''t wait till DH gets the rest of the trim/baseboards done so I can decorate!

I love the buffet, Tuckins, and I love the idea to put a mirror above it!

I puffy heart Barbara Barry!

Love the new buffet! Have you thought about putting a big painting above it? It could be that splash of color in the room. You could do the mirror idea as well.

Thank you sweetie, that''s exactly what I was hoping you''d say. My dining room furniture is antique oak and your floor would be a perfect compliment.

I looked online, and I think the color is Gunstock. They do still sell it if you want it!
