All of the above, plus...

Never buy from paper/numbers alone when there are numerous vendors who provide magnified stone and IS/ASET images.

Never buy an expensive diamond (new or second hand) without a return policy.

never be afraid to ask for help.
I ask for help when it is an area that I am not sure on, and so do the other forum experts and vendors.

All of the above. Never be afraid to walk away and think about the purchase. Never buy a stone you can not afford.

And never tell your SO about your diamond purchases...

HI:

Never say never.

cheers--Sharon

No SO to tell me what not to do, and long may that continue!

Never lower than a J in colour, never lower than a SI2 in clarity unless the stone is tiny.

DK :))

Never buy a diamond without telling your SO

Never lower than a F in color and never lower than a SI1 in clarity unless the stone is tiny.

Never buy a "SuperIdeal" H & A diamond without the AGS0 "wrapper"

These of course are my opinions only

Almost forgot, never nag your jeweler

Mine is this: spend it once & get exactly what you want.

& everything else on is thread--except the various color/clarity preferences (each to his own....)

MY nevers:

1. Never make an impulse buy. I have always regretted those.
2. Never buy a stone you can't afford.
3. Never finalize the sale until you have seen the stone in many kinds of lighting.

Never feel under any pressure to buy anything - there is always always another "deal" just around the corner.

agree!

never buy without 'cooling your jets'

never forget that money spent on this means no money to spend on THAT - opportunity cost is real when it comes to your jewellery budget
never forget patience is a fabulous virtue when it comes to loving, appreciating and making good choices in fine jewellery
never forget that, 'elegance is an attitude' (not a price point)
never forget that great jewellery is a timeless investment, and a piece becomes really special when it is loved and appreciated for a lifetime.

Never buy a diamond if you are just settling instead of getting what you actually want

Never buy a diamond without asking for opinions here first :D
