Last January/Feb I had problems with a random man who don''t live in our court parking in our private parking designated for our townhomes. I believe I posted the issue here seeking advice, and got some good suggestions...however, as the spring time set in, I let the issue go because parking near our home wasn''t such an issue without the mounds of snow on the ground. Plus, I got nervous--since I''m fundamentally non confrontational. So, because I said nothing and did nothing, he continued to park his mini van there.

Well, today I walked out my home to find his mini van covered in pictures of dead babies. He has them tucked in on his dashboard, taped to his rear window and side windows. He has them *inside* his car so no one can rip them off I assume. Now, he''s always had a bumper sticker that proclaimed "guns don''t kill people, abortion clinics do" and while I don''t exactly agree with his views or the sentiment, his little bumper sticker wasn''t hurting anyone, or visually offensive. But now I feel like he''s gone way to far!

We live in on a family friendly court where there are families that have younger children who shouldn''t be subjected to images like this!!And while he can think/support whatever movements he wants, I find the pictures to be disgusting, offensive, and crude.

I don''t know what to do! I am so nonconfrontational...and these pictures are on his private property. He doesn''t *look* like the type of person who would be approachable (very gruff and unfriendly). I do know where he lives, and I''ve thought about taping a note to his door, but will that be effective enough? I contacted my association who told me I would need to submit a formal complaint and then if the board agrees at the next meeting that this violates the terms of our association, he will be sent a letter asking him to cease ... should he not comply, he will recieve 3 notices before being formally asked to attend a meeting! I thought about calling the police...but really, what can they do???

I''m at such a complete and utter loss, and totally uncomfortable...what should I do?????

Sorry, Italia. I have no advice off the top of my head, but I was just so appalled by the image of that situation in my head that I just had to emote my head in disgust.

I don''t think I completely understand the parking issue -- is he parking wrongfully in your lot? Can''t they just get his van moved out on that basis alone?

I guess the issue is that he will still park his van within the parking lot, in general, just not in the area in front of your home, so you''re still worried about your other neighbors?

Since he is advertising in you parking spot and parking there despite the rules I would personally have him towed. I am not confrontational either, which is why I would not say anything. He knows the pictures are graphic and he also knows he is in your spot. A grown man should follow the rules like everyone else.

When I finished my post I called my DH to tell him--he told me he too had noticed it and stopped to look closer. Apparently, intermixed with the pictures were "facts" about Obama''s stand on abortion...so, my DH is hopeful that it was a one day only thing he did for the election and that by this evening it will be gone. He said our nasty neighbor also had a McCain/Palin bumper sticker ... which, I suppose would explain/justify the graphic pictures if he does side with Palin and her radical views on abortion...then his shock and awe, must have made sense to him in some sick, sick, sick perverted disgusting way.

I hate this man. period.

It reminds me of summer 07 when we had a womans clinic go up in our town, and they had protestors out, day and night, holding huge signs...some of these protestors were children...

It isn''t assigned parking so I cannot have him towed

This is the gist of the parking situations : there are four spots, and 12 townhouses are supposed to share those 4 spots. Each townhouse does have a 2 car garage...so the spots are intended for overflow parking, or for our guests so that they don''t have to park on the street. We live city row homes, so our garages are in the rear of our building and our back faces the back of the townhomes behind us..almost like an ally way.

The man with the van lives in front of our parking. His front door faces our courts overflow parking spots. So instead of parking in his garage, or in his courts overflow spots, he parks in ours. Which is shady and inconsideration, but not illegal or tow-worthy.

UGH! Gross! I''d say file a formal complaint with your association. You totally have basis for it especially with the whole abortion thing.

Also politely inform the association that he''s parking in your overflow lot and he doesn''t live in your court, so shouldn''t he be parking in his overflow section not yours?

Ugh that is so disgusting...unfortunately legally I don''t think he''s doing anything wrong... I think you''ve got to go through your condo association. I''d talk to other neighbors and see if you can get a bigger complaint going, they might take it more seriously?

Good luck, I hope he takes it down now that the election is over.

Thanks Neatfreak and lliang

I am so frusterated by this jerk. I totally support having opinions and I genuinely respect his...even if they differ from mine in every single way possible...but we both live around children who play in our court daily--esspecially with the warm weather we''re still lucky enough to have, not to mention people are trying to sell their homes, and are showing their property--the whole thing, including our overflow parking as a perk...so the way I see it is that he is *hurting* our neighborhood.

I did file my complaint online...and notice my association is having a meeting next week, so hopefully they will address it...but I''m even more hopeful that he''ll strip his van and its offensive pictures down before I get home from work.

Italia - I would file a complaint based on the fact that this is showing DEAD babies, and you are in a family oriented area. See what they say

That is disgusting, I am sorry that you are forced to look at that. I am not here to discuss my views on abortion, but nobody should have to look at those pictures, and certainly not kids! I would be outraged if I had to walk by that van with my three small children...they would have nightmares for months!

I hope that your complaint is effective...good luck!

bleck I hate those pics and get ticked every time I see them in an area where kids are at.
The federal courts have ruled they are protected speech so there isn't anything you can do about it legally.
I would however be tempted to throw a midnight painting party with a can of black spray paint.

Yep... Have his butt towed or have the management tell him to move his car.

It sounds like you are dealing with a fanatic. Everyone has a right to their opinions but this guy sounds like the in your face nut case, need attention type. I suggest you ignore the fool. From my experiences with people I can predict he will be more then happy to peg you an adversary and get his kicks by harassing you if you confront him either 1 to 1 or thru the association. Too bad you have to deal with this but the reason he is so obnoxious is to get attention. He craves it and if you bite on the bait he will try to keep you on the hook as long as he can.

Regards,
Lisa

I agree with Lisa - i think that''s the best, maybe safest? approach. On the other hand, your idea of a midnight painting party would be MUCH more gratifying....

Speaking of fanatics, BF watched a documentary last night on the Phelps family cult - they believe terrorism is God''s punishment on America''s sins, and they picket military funerals (soldiers who died in Iraq!!!) among other horrible things. Sadly, their (and the nutso guy in your parking space) rights are protected as you sad, but it makes me sick sometimes when it seems like a clear line has been crossed.

Thanks everyone for the advice...

His van has been missing from my court, but parked in his...with the pictures still loud and proud.

I fild a complaint, and now we''ll just have to wait and see...

As I mentioned in another post, I live about a mile from you...I believe you should call the police. Since we live in the happiest place on earth, I think they would try to do something to make sure the guy leaves his car somewhere kids can't see it. You know how picky this town is about image.

If you have anymore problems, speak up cause I have lots of connections in town due to my job. Nice to see you neighbor!

Gross. Unfortunately, I doubt there is much you can do, except see if you can get more people to complain with you. Good luck!
