What is the difference between a natural, an indented natural, and a cavity?
I suspect all three are leftovers of the original skin of the rough diamond.

So what's the difference, the depth? the area? the location on the stone?

Here's a plot from a GIA report for a diamond with all 3.

Great question! My antique OEC has several indented naturals; will be interested to see what we learn!

Here's a plot from a GIA report for a diamond with all 3.

Natural = a bit of the original skin of a diamond left on the diamond.
Indented Natural = a indentation that was caused by a indentation of the diamonds skin that was left on the diamond.
Cavity = hole or indentation that was not part of the skin or is particularly large. I believe an indented natural over a certain size will be plotted as a cavity but I am not sure where the line is drawn.
One cause of a cavity is a crystal was on the surface and fell out leaving a hole.
Another cause: it is where a feather meets the surface.
