hello everyone..this is the 1st time for me on this site..I have my Grandmother''s wedding ring passed down to me for my engagement ring and I just had a few questions... I was curious of the worth of my .66 miners cut diamond itself w/o the ring..just the gem price..I do not know the clarity or any other specs..just the size according to a recent visit to a jewler..I was also wondering if it is ok to remove the diamond from the original ring setting and put it into something more my "taste"..since the diamond was more than likely purchased in the 1930''s-1940''s is it going to damage the rock or anything else?? your input would be appreciated..thanx-

Hi shark,

You probably want to ask admin to move this to Rocky Talk (use the REPORT CONCERN button, lower right), it will get MUCH more traffic there. Your stone could be worth anything from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the cut, clarity, and color of it. More likely it is in the hundreds, but you never know.

It makes sense to get it appraised to find out what you are dealing with as well as if the stone has any major chips or damage that could be worsened by removing it from the current setting. If it's in good condition though you surely should be able to put it into something different.

And welcome!

Ditto. Welcome Shark. Get it appraised by an indepedent appraiser. See what shape it''s in. If all is well, then put it in whatever setting you love. You are lucky to have a family heirloom. I can''t wait to see some pics, before and after would be awesome!! I love OMC''s!!!
