I don''t know what the deal is, but since moving into our new apartment in November, our mailman just doesn''t deliver some things to us!!

Our water bill stopped showing up for a few months, a medical bill got sent back, my W2 for crying out loud!!

Who knows what else!!

Who do we go to to get this remedied. I don''t know how a mailman can just decide ''oh this must not be the right box, I''ll just send it back''! Has this happened to anyone? What did you do?

Is there a dog?
Perhaps the mail carrier feels unsafe.

Odd. Do you still get some things? There were no errors on the address or names of any of the things sent back? Was your box too full, maybe? I''ve heard of mailmen just not delivering things when the box isn''t emptied.

There''s no dog, it''s an apartment complex.

Jo, it''s emptied every day, so I don''t know if he''s just confused that 2 people with different names live in the same place? I mean seriously, there''s no reason for it to get sent back. It''s just random things, but always the most important...like bills and government documents.

When I was in undergrad, the mailmen refused to deliver any important mail to a box if they weren't absolutely sure the addressee lived there. With all the moving around students do, I guess it was common for addresses to not be updated properly. Anyway, they required that the current residents have their names taped inside the boxes. Maybe you could do the same, along with a note for him saying that you do, in fact, live there?

ETA: You could also call the local post office and inquire. They should be able to direct you to the right person.

Did you fill out one of those forwarding address forms at the post office to inform them of your new address?

Good idea, thanks! Gah, so frustrating! We get other people's mail in our box, but he won't put our own in there?!

Oh yeah we did. That''s important!

sunnyd, every place I have lived has a list inside the mailbox with the names (usually just last names) of the people who live there. You should check if that list is there, and if it is, make sure it''s accurate and/or leave a note for the delivery person with the right names.

that''s really weird! sounds super frustrating

You can call the post office and inform them of this problem. They will help you and speak to your mail carrier.

I had the same issue with my mail carrier. She would deliver our mail to the wrong house all of the time. She was constantly on her cell phone while delivering mail and I think that affected her concentration or something. I had to call a couple of times, but we''re finally getting all of our mail.

I had that happen in a big apt. complex too. Turns out it was because our names weren''t printed inside the box- by the time we moved we had our names on a card in there, as well as my maiden name and a misspelling of our names that''s pretty common, lol. Not that anyone told us that was the problem, the carrier just returned a lot of stuff

and we finally caught him one day and asked. You might try the same?

Also, sometimes people are just evil and occasionally they work at the PO. There''s one person at the local PO that hates me with a passion (I mail a lot of packages) and she told me a few months ago that I mailed too much stuff and she didn''t want to help me. And mysteriously a lot of my packages disappeared that day- they were 1st class w/ no DC or anything, and they never arrived or came back to me. Awesome. I think she round-filed the whole lot.

We had a weird one for awhile. One day I am on the porch, he delivers my mail and walks away with a USPS priority mail box. Coincidently I am expecting such a box. I ask him- "Hey is that by chance mine?" He reads the name it is addressed to which is was my ebay store and I say "yes". Because even though the ADDRESS was correct, he did not make the connection. And he kept giving us the mail from a lady 4 streets away. Eventually I started to just drop it off at her house. Really strange guy.

Sunnyd: I don''t know if this is true in your situation, but perhaps the mail that isn''t getting delivered to you has an endorsement on it that requires it to be returned to sender. The sender is notified by the USPS of your new address. I am talking about mail that is still addressed to your old address and then is sent to the forwarding unit of the Postal Service. That could account for some delay.

Yes Sunny definitely call the post office if you can''t speak to the mail person directly. I''ve also taped messages in my box & the mail person leaves me a reply.

We have/had problems with our mail too which is why I decided to stop receiving paper copies of bank, credit card statements etc.. and do everything online. I notice a lot of mistakes happen when the regular mail person is away.

I hope you complained about her. What difference does it make how many packages you mail she should just worry about doing her job, why is she working at the post office?

I have never had that problem, but a relative of my FI has. They did not receive my FIL christmas card or my STD for the wedding!!! They live in the same state I live in. We are assuming the mail person is not doing their job because the address is right.

SunnyD - I agree with the others, file a compliant!
