I have only found 3 stones using the HCA as a sorting tool!

this is the last one and its more $$$ than I wanted to spend.

Iam looking for a H Vs2/ Si1 eyeclean at 10cm not black pepper inclusions

H Vs2 xxx
t 56
d 61.1
cr a 33.5
pav a 40.8
m-sltk

this one will not look good at 10cm.

You need a steep deep stone that rates about HCA 5 for that

read the instructions that link after you enter a stone data

I don''t think I have to read the link. Lets see if i have learnt anything. The table of the stone will be dark. I need about a 1.5 HCA. This stone will lack contrast. In returned the only other stone that I liked because it scored 2+ and now its out on memo and not likely to be returned. The $$$ are already with this particular vendor so I''m stuck.

Unless you are a pinhead the whlole stone will be dark unless you buy a princess cut or something around 36 crown and 41.5+ pavilion.

Well, the really only other stone i can find is an ags. Its more than like a phantom because only 1 vendor has it,,,that along with another stone. Waiting til open to call them.

H
vs1 (really wanted a vs2)
t 55.9
d 62.4
cr a 35
pav 40.9
total depth pav 43

girdle faceted 2.1 - 4.4%

and yes i could well and truly be turning into a pinhead!

Vendor is saying nothing else is out there

A smart pin head :-)

Most people here will tell you to go with that one.

Personally I prefer the other as long as you do not want it to look good when you are 4 inches from it

ha. I turned 40 last week. So thinking about that alone means I should be realistic at what length my eyes focus properly. 21cm was the result.

i''m such a shocker! We are renovating a house at the moment which has meant rearranging a floor plan. Its been 4 weeks since the new walls went in upstairs. Its been 4 weeks that I have been saying THE FLOOR IS CROOKED, THE PARQUET FLOOR IS CROOKED. The poor contractor measured the walls to the edge of the stairs - straight! He did it again - still straight. The walls are done by infrared laser or something so they gotta be straight. Was out at site again today. Couldn''t take it anymore. Asked for the floor to have a spirit level put on it. What do you know, the floor slanted 2mm in 1 room and just inside the room adjoining it was another slant of 3-4mm. I''m not COCKEYED! The architect reckons its a combination of the slant and the old flooring now with the new wall. And the slant is within accepted range. Its going to cost $5k to rip the floor up and replace it! I don''t think I can live with it!

There seems to be a theme in my life....!!!

Hey Sparkles, long time no "speak"! How are you and how is your dad?

I read with goose bumps your story. It''s so "deja vu"! We went through the same EXACT thing with our house last year. I kept telling the contractor the floor was slanted and they kept saying no. They insisted on doing what they wanted to do. I also made them use the leveler to check it. Eventually, they agreed it was slanted and we agreed that we were not going to pay them for the crooked floor. We got another contractor to do it, but if the same contractor had done it again, we wouldn''t have paid extra for it.

Good luck.

LOL Sparkles and Lien!!! We just did a $1.5M office renovation and EVERYTHING is crooked. It bugs me to NO END. I walked past the kitchen area, glanced at the ceiling, and said "that return air grate is crooked." The contractor argued with me. We finally measured it. It's off by 1/16" on one side. They refused to fix it. Now that's all I can see in the kitchen--the damn crooked grate. As for the crookedness of the floor... don't even get me started...

We certainly are birds of a feather.

I tell you, I''m convinced we are better at seeing whether things are slanted than men, at least based on my personal experience. I told my husband and he didn''t believe me at first. I also saw a bunch of crooked steps on the staircase and patio tiles and all these contractors (all men), including the independent parties, told me they were not, until I made them use a leveler.

Yes, good luck, Sparkles. May I ask, is this an upgrade?

Hahahah you guys crack me up! My dad is okay - just got back from my nieces wedding last weekend which also happened to fall on my wedding anniversary and his 50th wedding anniversary , he wasn''t in the best of spirits naturally.

How are you LienTn..how is your family? I''m sorry i didn''t not offer my condolences regarding your mother. A bit too close to home for me! I tend not to want to think about it.

Yes, its an upgrade or move sideways into a different shape....similar carat weight but a whole lot more $$$$$$. Wonderful isn''t it - these rounds are such expensive things!

No worries, Sparkles. Sometimes I don''t want to talk about it either, cos it makes me all teared up, though of course I think about her every day.

Yes, RB are so much more expensive, but diamonds are expensive, period! Sometimes i think we wouldn''t lust after them so much if they weren''t so expensive!

I'm confused...so Garry is saying that the first diamond in this post won't look good close up, but is otherwise a nice diamond? Is this normal?

Hi Stupefy! welcome to the world of crazies....

I''m beginning to think perfection sits in a clear box with the ribbon still on!

Yes. He means because your head will be blocking the light this diamond needs to perform at optimum. It''s head obstruction. Go to the links in the FAQ section. there are lots of discussion points there about this. Bottom line: from 4 inches away, a lot of good diamonds will be crappy.

but he favors them anyway right? or he being facetious with that comment. how far away does your head have to be to make a diamond like this look great?

The effect of head obstruction on a potential diamond candidate is useful information insofaras knowing why a fine-make stone might appear dark when you inspect it ''up close''.

That said, I''d not really give much weight to the head-obstruction effect in the purchasing equation.......unless one planned to walk around with your head attached to your diamond.

Most of the time, your diamond won''t be obstructed by anything. It will be set into a nice setting and free of obstruction.

yeah!
Really all those proportins listed above are great stones. I guess I am just pulling chains

and teasing folk. The slightly shallow is going to be great for 40 year olds who are approaching the time when they could never look from really close up. the deeper stone is also right where lots of people prefer them. We really do micro analyse too much here. That is wwhy I have that larger range on HCA - there are different types of benefits

Garry, TURN IT UP!!!!!!! There''s nothing wrong with being 40 you cheeky sod!

I would really like you to go back to the drawing board with the HCA and amend it so it spews out more dialogue with the results. ie "this stone is on the verge of STEEP / DEEP but still worth a look. Maybe not a shoe-in but an independent appraisal is worth it if the price is right and if you can''t get a look at it personally.
