I was just sent my Jann Paul 3D renderings. Overall I love it. I'm just not sure if I like the bezel which I did not see in the original pictures from their website. So I may request to design it without the bezel, or changing the basket to a tulip design. A 1ct Round Nova in a 18kt yellow gold. setting. The hearts are white gold for contrast. I believe the thickness of the band is 2mm. Opinions requested overall and on my possible changes?

You mention a bezel, but I believe you are referring to the basket, which is a significant structural aid. A tulip basket, depending on the design may not have structural concerns.

Purely personal preference, but overly obvious hearts are frequently considered "young" - I would personally skip it or make it yellow gold. If you're set on hearts, we've seen beautiful heart prongs or hearts integrated as part of the basket design that are a little more subtle.

What bezel? Are you talking about the guardrail on the basket? There are lots of settings without the guardrail, but it is safer with
it.

Are you concerned about how a wedding band will sit next to this ring? Not sure if you care if there is a gap or not. Sometimes with kite
set prongs (NSEW), the prongs push the wedding band off/out so it does not sit smoothly next to the ering. You may not care, or
it may not push it off that much where it matters, but worth asking JP about.

This is on a personal note (so feel free to ignore)...the hearts are a little too cutesy for me. I dont think they will stand the test of time.

Other than those few things, I think it looks pretty good!

Thanks for the feedback. What about replacing the hearts with small diamonds?

Yes that would be lovely. UNLESS the intended wearer loves hearts and asked for them on the ring.

Re the basket, it is structural and you don’t want to mess with that by removing it. Perhaps they can change the line of it from straight to some type of curve to better mimic the lines of the setting.

I do like this design, I checked with Jann Paul, and they can replace the hearts with small diamonds or gemstones for a small upcharge.

My thinking on the gemstones would be a rubies or a combination of an Amethyst and a ruby. Both of our birthstones. Not sure how that would look or if it is appropriate to have my birthstone in a prominent location.

The other option besides this ring with the small diamonds or gemstones would be the simple classic solitaire would stand the test of time piece.

She has no interest in a wedding band, but she does want a gold bracelet. She is Thai and will be staying in Thailand. To a Thai 23k gold isn't a just a piece of jewelry, it is a tradable commodity. A security blanket in which 23kt gold can be traded for cash in hard times. So with the cost of gold nowadays, my overall cost for a ring and bracelet is a very important factor.

Not to mention all this searching for her within my budget has made me want to get me something. Maybe I can win the lottery, and upgrade everything to natural diamonds etc, and get myself something nice too. LOL. Unfortunately, the chance of that happening isn't great, and I'll have to sacrifice myself getting anything for the time being.

I know there is a separate forum for lab-grown diamonds, but I thought that was for questions specific to lab-grown diamonds. Questions about a ring design also have to be posted in the LGD forum? Since this is a design question, can’t you post it in Rocky Talk where you will probably get more eyes on it? Or does Rocky Talk forum care where the stone being set is sourced from?

I would choose a single gemstone type for the side stones not a mix. Ruby or diamond would be best. Amethyst is not very sparkly and tends to go black. It’s not going to be as pretty in that small size as a diamond or ruby.

How would it look with replacing the prongs with tulips prongs? Yellow gold band with the tulips in white gold? Or in your opinion would I the better with just having yellow gold vs two tone?

Here is a rendering of a solitaire with a tulip. I like this one too. Just wondering how the ring in my first post would look like with the diamonds replacing the Hearst and a tulip basket.

What does the intended wearer want?

I prefer the tulip head and 2 tone (but that's me). Not sure what your GF wants.

However, I dont think the twist of the first shank and the tulip head go together. You can have JP do up the cad and see
what you think.

The GF liked this .30 Natural D VS2 w/Med FL in a halo (Melee also D color) back in May on sale $2,400.00

That was probably back before discovering the absolute perfection that comes with a JannPaul 10 main custom cut diamond.

I dunno seems like gf may not desire a ring at all and would prefer a different type of engagement gift and whatever the case I think her wishes should be paramount.

I agree - high kt gold is huge over there..... (liquid store of $ wealth + inflation safe vs cash)
Also an issue how Lab stones are regarded (regardless how well cut) US e-ring market is a bit of an outlier with the large "Synthetic Diamonds" craze.... India prefers small naturals....most Labs produced there are for export to Americans.... Asia generally likes Naturals w/ High Color + Clarity < 1ct

you forgot the modifier......:geek: (Using the term "diamond" alone refers exclusively to a natural, mined diamond)

I'm not selling a diamond, so I'm not required to and don't need to use a modifier.

True, but I'm already committed to the LGD. It's being grown now. She didn't like the above solitaire, so I'm going to go with some type of halo design. Pay by CC and use cash to buy the bracelet. I'm working an extra job to try to build up my cash. Hopefully I'll surpass what I need by the time I reach Singapore in December.

She still likes the halo design, Despite telling me to surprise her. Decided to run several rings by her again, and it's the halo design that has her heart. So that is what she will get. Just working on the customization details. The halo customization I really think would blow her mind is unfortunately out of my budget, but I think she will still love my final choice.

I’ve had a good couple of weeks with my extra job that may allow me to get a setting with more bling. Right now I will throw out my thoughts to get the group’s opinion.

Random thought number 1. Traditional halo with diamonds on the prongs and a 3 row microwave on the shank. 3/4 or 1/2 way.

Thought 2 same as above but with a tulip basket. 2.1 w/ tulip basket with diamonds on the tulip. Not sure if that is even possible

My one corner n besides cost with the 2.1 version is would it be to much bling taking away from the Round Nova 1ct centerstone. Thoughts?

Traditional halo gets my vote! It seems like that is what she wanted. But I would not put diamonds on the prongs.

Do they put diamonds on prongs and baskets/tulips? I would think that would impact the stability, and the whole point is security. But I'm no expert when it comes to jewelry.

Yes on the prongs from the shank to the underside of the halo, Not the prong tips. As far as pave diamonds on a tulip basket I do not know if they can or would.

Here is a halo with the diamonds on the under prongs, and I'm thinking n the shanks of doing the 3 row microwave half way down.

Another question I have is thickness of the ring. She has a US ring size of 7.25. Would a 2mm thickness look to small and dainty on her fingers? 1ct Jann Paul Round Nova with the traditional halo. Of I go bigger, what size would you recommend? 2.2, 2.5 or 3mm?

I say traditional halo. No pave on prongs. No 3-sided micropave. (That's a lot of holes in the shank, and you can't wear a wedding
band up next to it without it eating into the metal). Pave on shank 1/2 or 3/4 around so you can resize if necessary. I would
recommend 2.3mm for the shank.

I suggest not going overboard. More isn't always better IMO.

Thank you for your input. Do you think going up to 3mm would be to wide? Also as far as the micropave 3 row, the only reason I was thinking about that was that the halo design she liked the most had a lot of diamonds on the shank. Freddy Boston reposted the picture earlier in this thread. Jann Paul can offer a split shank with traditional halo, and at least for now is not interested in a wedding band.
