My James Allen Halo Ring. Is This Normal?

Hi,

I'm newly engaged. My fiance had my ring made from JA. Lately I've noticed 1 diamond in my halo that at certain angles & dim lighting that it goes dark. When I flip the ring or under bright light that it disappears. We think it's dark sometimes because there is more metal surrounding that diamond. It's set by the center stone's prong & the prongs that is holding that diamond are a bit thicker than others, plus, the metal is higher on the scalloped side of the halo, if that makes any sense. I need some input if this is normal. We are still within our 60 days to return the ring for any repairs without any additional charges. I'd hate to be without it for 2 weeks for repairs, which I was told that is how long it will take. My fiance thinks it's not worth sending it off because to him it's a minor imperfection. He's more worried that if they try to change the diamond, it could alter or weaken the ring's setting or maybe even damage the center stone. Also, the possibility that it can be lost during transit. The ring has sentimental value to me so I don't want anything to happen to it also. I'm posting some pictures of it. Any comments will help us greatly on our decision. Fix it now. If it already bothers you, it's not going to bother you less in a few years. JA should be able to change a melee stone without damaging the ring. 2 weeks to be without your ring in the grand scheme of things is nothing.

I would have it fixed. That should not have passed quality control.

As a Vendor I know that these things happen. JA has a good reputation for fixing these minor things that do occasionally sneak through quality control.

While it is annoying to be without your new treasure for a few weeks, I believe that it is much better to have it fixed now. Call JA an give them a chance to prove that they have earned your trust and business.

Make use of JA's generous 60 day return/review period. They will fix this for you. Do it whilst you can or it will bother you more down the road.

This is a platinum setting & I've never own anything platinum before. How will the repairs go about especially when it comes to replacing melees? I'm just worried that it could messed up the setting or cause some loose diamonds. Maybe even crooked the center diamond because it's by the center's prong.

It is a simple and straightforward job; please send the ring to JA and have them correct it. It will not affect the integrity of the setting nor damage the main stone.

I agree with the others above. Two weeks without the ring is a small price to pay to fix something that will nag you later.

Does anyone think it could be dirty from the bottom of that diamond? I did accidentally spilled hot egg drop soup on my hand the day after he proposed & it was all over my ring burning me. Could that damaged the diamond? I know that is a stupid question but anything is possible. I did looked at the ring a lot when I first got it the past weekend. It was after that incident when we got home that I started to notice that one diamond & maybe another being dark under dim lighting.

I just made an appointment with an appraiser for Friday. Maybe after he cleans it really good that it goes away?
