Anyway, I thought I''d throw up our proposal story....

As explained the actual proposal suffered a few set backs. When working on the ring I figured out that I wanted to propose around Monica''s birthday (Dec 16th). It would be easier to get her somewhere without as much suspicion and it had the added benefit that we were going home for Christmas and could share the news with everyone in person.

As luck would have it, I ended up rescheduling the event 3 times. We''ll skip to the good parts. I had issues with several of Monica''s birthday and Christmas presents this year so it helped from a credibility standpoint when I kept fuming at the delivery guys and scrambled at the last minute for a birthday plan. I ended up explaining to Monica that I would be taking her to the spa between our Christmas and New Years travel. Lord knows family time is a lot of work!

As luck would have it, when we flew home from New England on Friday the 26th we needed to check some luggage (which I never do). The weather was good in New England but not so much in Atlanta. First there was fog. Then the radar went down. After the finally lifted the ATC holds we took off. We landed and when we got to baggage claim.... the baggage handling system was down at the busiest airport in the world! We lost two bags which were supposed to be delivered the next day, the only one of mentionable importance was the "extra" bag that we used to carry home my ski-boots and Monica''s makeup.

The bags were supposed to be delivered Saturday by noon. Well, they weren''t. I explained to Monica that we would be going out after and she should pick out an outfit now for after the spa. We headed out and I dropped her off for her afternoon at the 29 Spa at the Mansion in Buckhead ( www.mansiononpeachtree.com ). Originally we were scheduled to have a couples massage but with all of the late changes the couples suite was booked. Monica enjoyed the whole treatment and actually found it quite fun to not know what was coming next in her series of treatments. While she was relaxing I was running around like a madman. First I went to the other side of the city to get the ring, then back home to hopefully get our luggage and pack. Of course one bag was delivered but not the one with the makeup. While waiting for the bags I took the wring and wrapped it in a series of boxes with the outer box being one of the typical clothing gift boxes.

After giving up on the luggage I headed up to check in to the hotel (The Mansion). My butler... (that''s right, I had my own butler!) brought the bags up and I got settled. After a few minutes I headed down to the Spa to pick up Monica. She came out looking awfully relaxed and thankful. She changed and we went to the elevators. She slapped me once she figured out why I had hit the 11th floor button and we went to the room to get ready. We headed up stairs where I had a small snack of chocolate surprises waiting for us to munch on.

On a side note, I travel frequently and have stayed in everything from fancy boutique hotels to Ritz Carltons but the experience at the Mansion was amazing and I''d highly recommend anyone put it on their short list.

After playing with our gizmos and touring the suite I let her know we were still sans makeup. Luckily we were right across the street from one of Monica''s favorite malls so we decided that she would show and get ready and then go get her makeup done at the mall while I got ready (I''ll add that going to Lennox in Atlanta is an odd experience, people dress up and bring their best cars to the valet so surprisingly she didn''t look too out of place). She noticed the box and I let her know it was her last present that finally showed up.

I dropped Monica off across the street and said I''d be back in about an hour to pick her up for dinner. I got ready and waited for our towncar to arrive to take us to dinner. I headed over and called her to let her know we were ready to take off. I waited in the car for her to come out. She finally emerged (with arms full of shopping bags no-less) and I stepped out of the car as she walked by. She excused herself for getting in the way and kept going..... until I said her name

Surprised, she got in the car and we headed off.

We headed to dinner at Quinones at Bacchanalia ( www.starprovisions.com ) Bacchanalia is one of our favorite restaurants (and the best in Atlanta) but we had never dined at Quinones which is their much more intimate down stairs restaurant. While Bachanalia is a prix-fixe menu, Quinones takes it one step farther and the experience is a single 13-course menu that is served to each table. As always the service and meal were absolutely amazing. We had a nice private table where we both sat on a small couch, very romantic.

After the fact Monica told me that at about course 9 she began wondering when the heck I was going to propose, afterall both the masseuse and the makeup lady were sure that was what was going on. She reached over and stuck her hand in my pocket which I thought was her being frisky until she proceeded to pat me down looking for a ring!

After finding none she began to resign herself that yet again I had just prepared another great day, with no proposal.

We finished our meal (after about 3 hours) and headed back to the car to catch a ride back to the hotel where we had rose petal and tea-light turndown service. When we got up to the room Monica was ready to take her "drag-queen" (I didn''t notice) mall make up off and relax. Of course she didn''t notice me pacing when she was in the other room. She finally came out and we sat down (after clearing away some of the roses) and I brought over the gift box. She was fairly certain that it was just lingerie and figured she might as well since I had been so sweet.

As she started opening the boxes and they started to get smaller and smaller she started to figure out what was going on. As she got towards the end my eyes started to tear up. She got to the end and I got down on one knee and opened the ring box and I told her that I couldn''t imagine a more perfect woman to spend the rest of my life with and asked her to marry me.

After much celebrating and tears of joy a bottle of Champagne arrived for us to celebrate. Monica proceeded to finish her glass while me in my euphoric state of relief managed to finish the rest of the bottle! I can''t describe the feeling, it was amazing. The secret I had for 6 months was finally out, I''d been wanting to tell her all about the adventure and I finally could. I think I was going about 50 million miles an hour, yadda yadda yadda the next morning we woke up and enjoyed breakfast in bed before starting the telephone game to let everyone know!

I''m enjoying my mangagement ring and it is fun to start thinking about a wedding (albeit slightly overwhelming). At least we get to go on this adventure together!
