My Great Great Grandmothers Diamonds. Take a look

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to figure out for a while now what cut these rings are. I took the closets pictures I could with my camera. Any gemologists could really help me on this one. I have a matching band but I did not include pictures because the center stone is the biggest.

Really can't tell anything based on those pictures unfortunately. We really need closeups of the stone where we can see the facet pattern. Try the macro setting.

But depending on the era, if they are round, they could be Old European Cuts, Transitional Cuts, or early RB's. Googling those names might give you some insight.

I have seen similar designed rings at an antique store. I remember the owner said that they were from an estate and the large diamonds were "old miner cut?" [Pros, please correct me if I am wrong with the spelling...]

That is one possibility but we can't tell without more pictures. I don't think it's an old mine cut though because it doesn't seem to have a high crown. My bet is simply some form of predecessor to our modern round brilliant.

Any idae when the diamonds were reset...the setting is deffinately not antique...looks to be a 1950s setting...the pics are too blurry to see cut of diamonds

Ditto, try the macro setting on your camera.

Yep, that''s my thought too- settings look late ''40s at the very earliest to me, but are most likely ''50s. That profile view with the U shaped prongs was very popular in the ''50s.

If the rings are ''50s then they''re probably round brilliants. If the stones were taken from older pieces they might be an older cut style, of course, but no way to tell w/o closeups.

Very pretty! That ring actually looks very much like my grandmother''s engagement ring from the ''40s (though hers only had two stones on each side). The center stone was an RB but the sides were single cuts.

ETA: I just read the other responses and I guess I was right on with the timeframe for the setting! I would be very interesting if these diamonds were reset from something else.

At first, I thought there is no way they could be RMB because of the time frame. I am only 20 but they were my great great grandmothers rings. I''m thinking she probably got the rings in the 40''s or replaced older stones with these. Im pretty sure they are not old mine cut. The table on the on mine cut is really small and the cutlet does not come to a point, it squares off. These rings are RM, I''m sure.
