Hi ! My husband upgraded my ring to 2.06ct Oval, purchased at SolomonBrothers. GIA cert, G colour. Stone has some black tie, but very beautifle, I love. We put the stone to the setting, and found that stone looked "yellow"... My old GIA G 1.5ct radiant is much whiter. Did GIA change their G colour standard ? I am very shocked, my new e-ring looks to have H/I/J colour stone...

What kind of setting? What metal is used? The cut may be affecting your color perception.

An "I" color would not necessarily come up yellow

Have it professionally steam cleaned and verified against the grading report ASAP.

Yes.

Thank you for your replies, Stonecold11, Bosie, Karl K and Lorelei.

My setting is a kind of Halo, all Platinum, no yellow gold.

I picked up the ring at jeweller on 10Oct, and I am sure, no contamination on it.

Image attached.
This photo were taken under sunlight.

Should I go to GIA gemologist ???

I would contact the seller without delay firstly and see what they advise looking at the photo. You might also want to get the opinion of an independant appraiser as soon as possible too and check it matches the GIA report.

Here is the appraiser listing here.

Please keep us posted and let us know what the seller says once you contact them. Just curious, did the stone look this way once you received it unset? Just trying to get the full picture here, you purchased the diamond from Solomans then had it set by another party and it looked yellow once mounted or did it look this way all the time before setting?

Can you list the GIA report number here? Is there Fluorescence listed as Yellow?

Look at it outside, does it seem off white there? I'm guessing you're just seeing it reflecting colors off your surroundings. While a G is not icy white, it is no where near yellow. My beige home walls and tan interior in my car are not the best places to look at my ring, which has a G diamond. However, outside or if I'm wearing dark colors it's a clear diamond, almost silvery. Not a hint of warmth. Diamonds reflect what's around them and real diamonds are reflective, that's how we get the pretty pictures we drool over on here.

Also, I'm sure someone not scrutinizing your ring as close as you are, only sees a white diamond to their eye. For example, a person sitting opposite you will not be picking up any warmth when seeing that sparkle on your finger. If you do a search, you'll see this is a common worry brought on by us over analyzing every aspect of a diamond :0)

WHOOPS, didn't see the pic. you posted in direct sunlight. Hmmmmm, I don't know what's going on with it's color but that is the most gorgeous way I've seen an oval set.

I thought of that also but it wouldn''t look distinctly yellow all the time as apparently this stone does, worth checking though.

Wow that is more yellow then my Mom''s K colored stone, you need to get that appraised asap.

ya, just throwing out ideas, not sure if she sees it in all lighting but the pic was taken in sunlight. Maybe as Karl said before, get it clean again, maybe some left over gunk from the setting process is still in the setting?

Yep and thats possible too, but the stone looks so tinted and I took it to mean it looks this way in all lights....But I shouldn''t make definite assumptions from a photo anyway!

Like most posters above have already replied, your experience and the photo are a cause for concern.

Your best option is to first check with the seller. Please have them verify that they did not make a mistake (this can happen), and it would give them the chance to correct it.

If they confirm that all is above-board, I would advise telling them that you will have this independently appraised. And then, make sure to get that done too.

After these actions, you will know the facts. How to work with those is the next question, but not to worry about that now.

Live long,

If the G oval pic is any indication of the stones color in real life, like the other said, get it apprasied ASAP. I have a 2.50 G and even in that size it looks white. Yours almost looks like a fancy color.

I agree! I have an H and it is far whiter than that!

Something doesn''t match something here. You need to find an appraiser real fast!

Everybody has provided excellent advice thus far, I just want to add that the perception of color can be altered by the amount of brilliance, dispersion and scintillation being displayed by diamonds... And the facet structure of a Radiant and an Oval Brilliant are quite different, the Radiant is more likely to deliver more brilliance and more reflective points than an oval brilliant, which might add to the perception that the Radiant is "whiter" when in fact it is more "lively". I mention this because I see people run with this concept all the time when meeting with them face-to-face...

The labs grade diamonds upside down from a side profile under a controlled light source... Jonathan at GOG has posted some pretty good video''s that demonstrate how diamonds are color graded (Not sure whether I can mention that or not, but hope that is okay to do so)

Hi everyone, thank you for your all advices. I will clean my ring, and take better, clearer picture, and, talk to the seller. I am not so optimistic, may be our fault, we did not claim yellow colour before setting, believed in the certificate too much and bought online. Lose stones looked very warm colour, but we could not tell so to the seller. If Oval would look warmer in colour, it is good to know for future oval buyer.

I feel very sorry about how much my husband paid... I will update the result.

Thank you again,

bla

Good luck to you, and keep us updated! I hope the seller will refund your money in full.
