My son adopted his first dog, Bud. He is 1.5 years old approx. and supposedly is a lab and beagle mix. He has a terrible back story on the streets of New Orleans and in addition to poor physical condition with lesions and bruises, someone also cut off his tail.

Despite all of that, he is such a happy boy.

The only issue is he is a loud, compulsive barker when it comes to squirrels.

Oh my!!! Congrats on the new arrival!! He's a lovely dear boy who has gone from a rough beginning to a loving home. Give him a pat and kiss for me. Many happy years together.

Thank you!

I will meet him this weekend, though I FaceTime with him several time a day lol.

I had to take his pic down for a sec to blot out his information on his collar lol

He actually has such a happy joyful face despite all the terrible things some horrible humans have done to him, I hope he has a long and happy life with your son!!!

My Scottish Terriers (also called the Scottish Terribles) used to bark a lot we have a family of possums, Bats and a heap of other wildlife here, I got a Citronella spray bark collar and a clicker and trained them to still bark at people and strangers but not unless the possums are really close at the wildlife....

He has kind and gentle eyes!

They said when he was starving and in the high kill shelter, they gave him a treat and he was lying down eating it and a puppy was there too, and he gave the treat to the puppy. (I’m guessing this was when they were pulled from the pound).

He seems to be so sweet.

He wants to murder squirrels though

It’s on the way lol. I had a super barky Sheltie and a citronella bark collar worked beautifully

What a good boy! I hope he has a luxurious life now. My current boy came to me with terrible scars and a bad leg. It is so hard to see that, but like your son's dog he is happy go lucky. Congratulations, grandma. My daughter says I am our dog's grandmother, too, since she is his mother. :))

What a sweet looking boy! So glad he has a good forever home.

I have grandcats.

aaawwwwwww poor feller turned lucky feller.
Just thinkin about his possible back story makes my eyes water.
There is someone around here with a hose who keep sprayin my eyes today.

It’s such a lesson for us all that he has been though horror and lives in the beauty of the present. He is truly happy go lucky despite everything.

What a sweet boy! Congrats on such a wonderful addition to your family. More pics please!

Congratulations! What an adorable happy dog now! Please post more pics, I feel like we can all use happy pet photos in these trying times

awww congrats grandma! What a sweet face xo

Oh what a beautiful boy! Congratulations, Glam-ma!

he is gorgouse
im so happy for him he's gone to a warm loving home
part of me says bark at all the squirals you want :appl:
but then i know nothing about squirels of how loud his bark is

across the street our neighbour has a darling little cocker spaniel who barks at cats ....our Borris is very naughty in that regard
but i understand the annoyance neighbours may have over a barking dog but this boy needs to catch up on the joys of being a dog
happy families =)2

Wonderful! He's a lucky dog!!!

Aww, what a beautiful granddog! Lucky dog and lucky family. :appl:

In the pictures you just posted, Bud looks a little like my "grandson", who parked himself right where I lie on my bed because I gave him a treat downstairs and he had to bring it to my bed to eat it. (Since my daughter came into my room at 5AM and took the other half of my Queen sized bed, that left me to get up on my pillow and scrunch into a ball with my laptop between my knees and chest so as not to disturb the dog. I hate to push him around. I love him so much and he has been through so much.) I'll post a picture of Hero so you can see the resemblance. He was quite thin when he came here, although not malnourished. (He had been in foster care.) He has filled out a bit And his scar has healed a huge amount.

He’s so sweet! I have two dogs who always bark at squirrels and bunnies and it gets so loud I almost jump out of my skin! I’m so happy that your grand dog has a wonderful new home.

My new rescue barked at everything, although other dogs and chipmunks were his main targets. He had been listed as a "Lab mix" when we adopted him. I did DNA testing and found out the reason for some of the characteristics that he had. The hole digging and barking and obsession with chipmunks was because he was part America toy fox terrier, the breed descended from dogs used for fox hunting. They bark to protect themselves and, descended from the dogs who dug out foxes, were used for ratting. The hatred for other dogs and readiess to fight them seems attached to being part American Staffordshire. He is also strong as an ox and when he first came here he broke down my fence and bit two other dogs, bringing the police down on me. All my neighbors, who loved my Newfie, Griffin, started to hate me. He is also part Lab. He did catch a rabbit. He wouldn't give up his fresh kill to the person who was walking him. I had to come home.

My vet says he is "a machine gun" and that Griffin (my Newfie) was "an old musket". I call Hero "the terrorist".

my friend's daughter has a lab hunterway cross
a hunterway is a NZ sheep dog breed with a very loud deep big dog bark

he is a very large dog and his bark is deafening inside in the confines of a house
i would hate to hear what he would say if he saw a squirrel :mrgreen2:

I looked up the Hunterway, a breed of which I had never previously heard. They are fascinating. Thank you for sharing the information, Daisys and Diamonds.

edited to add: The Hunterway is not that large compared to some other herding dogs, like The Great Pyrenees. I had been expecting to see a Giant Breed.

Beautiful doggie. :kiss2:

Grand dog in the thread title made me think this was about large hot dogs.

What a sweetie! I love his smile!
