Hello forum! I''ve been reading through this for the last couple of days, about to make a really big decision (engagement, ahh!).

I have been looking around online after visiting several jewelry stores and the prices are almost 25% difference. Here is the priced jewel I''ve found so far. I called the customer service and she told me the feather imperfection is in the crown or pavillion (this is what I need most help on). She says it will not affect reflection quality, and it''s quality is great (checked it on the HCA and it scored a 1.5!)

Details:

Carat: 0.70ct
Color: F
Clarity: SI-1
Cut grade: Excellent

Proportions:
Depth: 60.8 %
Table: 57 %
Crown Angle: 35°
Crown Height: 15 %
Pavilion Angle: 40.8°
Pavilion Depth: 43 %
Star length: 50 %
Lower Half: 75 %
Girdle: Thin to Medium, Faceted
Culet: None

Finish:
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: None

Clarity Characteristics: Feather

All of this is from the GIA report #17001455

Thanks for all your help! I hope its a resounding "Yes, get this great stone!"

Oh, and it''s $2,600

Hi steve,

So, you are not sure which area the feather is in? The crown is the top half of the diamond, and the pavilion is the lower half. If it is a reputable vendor you talked with, it sounds like it''s ok. But I don''t know who you talked to!

I don''t see any red flags. One thing though, did you ask if it was eyeclean? and by your standards? Also, can you get an Idealscope pic? though I imagine it''s fine.

Otherwise, so far it looks good.

I agree with Ellen that an IS would be helpful! Also, welcome to Pricescope!

Thanks for the replies! It was diamonds.com that I was looking at - though now that I''ve been using the search feature on this site I''ve found some diamonds with similar details for under $2000! Is this too good to be true? I just found this diamond: http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/diamonds/17080029 through pricescope''s search for $1969 and it scores a 0.7 in the HCA and has a ''crystal'' inclusion. Is that much worse than the feather? I will have to call this website later and ask more questions as well, but $1,969 almost seems unreal - if the deals on this site are that good I''ll be moving up in carat size.

Steve

Steve, I ran the measurements that were provided on the GIA report through the HCA tool (look on the pricescope main page, at the top, under "Tools") and here's what it said:

Total Visual Performance 5.8 - Good - Only if price is your main criterion

This is because... the GIA report says this is a .7 J SI1, not F! And it has feathers, not a crystal. In fact, I think they are simply displaying the wrong report. You should definitely ask which is wrong, the display on the web page, or the GIA report they are showing.

Based on your previous selection, here''s a suggested stone from a respected pricescope vendor: 0.74 Carat Ideal Cut G-SI1 Round Brilliant - $2,300 Pricescope price

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1135842.asp

This stone has great proportions from the GIA Report. Call them and ask if it is eye-clean and then ask for an Idealscope image.

I bought my fiance''s stone and my center stone from JamesAllen and was very happy with the quality and price.

Good luck!

Finally, I got triple excellent and one very good, within TIC range...1.5 like the OP said. And its an F.

I don't usually bother with the HCA, but I knew Ellen and Skippy wouldn't steer the OP wrong..Am I missing something?

I saw that report too, and I''ve since seem it on every diamond page on that website, haha. I think it must be a sample image of what a GIA report looks like, because it is always the same one. Thanks for the suggestions, I have a couple of weeks before I really need to buy the diamond, so I will definately search through pricescope.com some more.

Thanks again

Joe! What an amazing site, giving you the ability to look at the real diamond and report - thanks so much for sharing! Can other more experienced people look at this diamond Joe pointed out and look through the virtual loupe and tell me what you think about the SI-1 inclusions - how well you think they can be hidden and how noticeable they will be. THanks

Yep, sample only I believe..

You need to go to the GIA site and use the "report check" function.

steve, the one joe picked out and the one you did (from JA) both have potential, I see no red flags. What you might do, if you're really interested in one of these, is call JA and ask for Jim. Have him compare the two and pick the best performer. That's what I would do.

Hey Steve,

Just some more advice. In the 3/4 carat weight range, a G or H color diamond is very white and for most is not decernable from an F, so why pay more? Also, many SI1 clarity diamonds in this size are eye-clean, again why pay for VS2 if you can get a SI1? Anyways, happy hunting.

Gorgeous diamond, you did well!
