A designer Whitney Boin makes a very similar setting called the post collection with only two prongs on the top and a full bezel ''underwire''. I have seen this Whitney Boin setting set with a six carat radiant.
Is this it?

You Rocky Talky regulars are quite the detectives, aren't you? I shall have to spend more time here. You really make me laugh! I mean if this is the treatment you afford a poster who tries on a family member's ring, I cannot imagine how you would treat someone trying to pull a scam!

ROTFL!

I don't care about "advising" the future MIL personally. The future MIL didn't ask me for my opinion.

I don''t care what it is, it''s MASSIVE! Lorelei, that pic you found is stunning. If only we all had an open chequebook ... I would love that rock on my ring finger!

I know, isn''t it gorgeous???? The setting would still worry me as the tips of the diamond look very exposed but it is exquisite and unique.

I realize that the number of postings attributed to you is not necessarily commensurate to the amount of time you have spent on Pricescope, but in case you are new here I wanted to warn you that the above statement might get you in trouble. It is politically incorrect and grounds for being sent away for re-education. Just a friendly waring in case you are new ;-).

Well, big honkin'' diamond or not, I appreciate the OP''s effort and thought for snapping the quick pic, and her kind gesture to share the fun moment with us. It is, however, interesting how a rock of such size, in an unusual setting, and an unclear photo, all add up to an open door for debate around here...

COWABUNGA!

I can safely say it''s huge.

It’s hard to guess without knowing the size of the hand but that actually looks bigger than 8 carats to me. She might be impressed at how much it would change if she cleaned it.

Note to gurus. Stone ID based on fuzzy photographs is a very problematic task. Presumably MIL is happy with it, which is the point after all. Congratulations to her.

Hey Neil,

right you are.

Perhaps, and I''m not saying its an excuse for ''raining on anyone''s parade'', but there was a thread recently

in SMTR of a mbr showing off her (I think( future SIL''s ''huge 3ct diamond'' - which, similiar to above was a fuzzy photo and hard to see, but was quite clear it was Not a diamond.

When it was first mentioned to the poster, of course she thought this is a bit odd and was maybe taken aback.

But I understand a couple weeks/months later she came back to advise PS it was, after all, I believe a moissanite - and the SIL had been boasting about the 3ct diamond which she knew to not be true, for personal reasons..

Anyway, long way around, that member ended up having a happy resolution and thanking the PS''er for their honesty..I am just saying, this ring seems similiar to that case is all - and the photo looks quite similiar.

Maybe that is why people are passing on these comments - and I''m sure the motivation is purely the same as in the other thread - for education and help. The last thing we want is future MIL perhaps being taken on this

diamond, correct?

From that photo, alarm bells ring for me.

But hey, you''re the expert

I remember that post re: SIL''s huge "diamond" that turned out to be a white topaz - I replied to her - here it is...

Because ladies, on PS it''s always CUT first!!

That Whitney Boin setting is very cool!! I''d be interested to see more of the OP''s MIL''s ring. I wonder how similar the setting is to the WB
