Hi to all!
I wanted to tell you about my experience through the search for the perfect diamond for an engagment ring.
Mara, Giangi, Garry, Robin and others helped me through my way to decide. At the end of the day, I got a beautiful diamond. Now I can tell you the story and tell you where the beauty came from:
As I live in Germany I began to look for a nice engagement ring. My wife-to-be is still in Brazil and will be here in January. So I looked here for something special. Soon I noticed that the juwelers in Germany have just small knowledge about diamonds (a "well cut" diamond is the thing you want !! and words like "H&A", "GIA", "Idealsope" "OGI" are words they have never heard about!).. (well I learned in the meantime a lot, with all of you guys!). Second problem: diamond rings are VERY expensive in Germany......
After looking in the internet, I decided to buy one in the US, where the big market is. The problem was, how to get it from the US to Germany! I was recommended someone who could give me support and who has good knowledge and lives in Europe. So I contacted a guy who makes himself call "Paul-Antwerp"......
He explained me many things about diamonds and gave me some info about some he had. After all the learning process and the excellent support from all of you, I decided to buy a very nice 1.03, F, VS2, super-ideal from Paul... this "Venus" by Infinity is beautiful, it is a H&A with an excellent cut.... you should see it!
Paul even came down to Stuttgart from Antwerpen and spent good time explaining me everything about the diamonds, teaching me and showing me with all kind of gadgets how to see the nice stone.
After the interesting "lesson" he even went with me to the juweler who was going to make the ring.
Now it has been 2 weeks since I picked up the ring. A beautiful forged platinum ring, which makes the stone look wonderful.
I am now just very anxious for january, where I want to surprise my girlfriend, taking her to Vienna, where I want to give her the ring.
I am very happy that everything went as it did, and to have known Paul Sledgers personally. It is just a pity if you haven´t met Paul... you have lost the opportunity to meet a gentleman!
Christian
PS: The only bad thing is we couldn´t get to drink a beer..... So I hope next time we meet we will drink one. Garry doesn´t like belgium beer, well, australian is not better either! We will drink good german beer!
PS2: I will try to put some pictures in the next post
