Hi Friends

I need your opinion! Because of everyone's lovely photos of DBTY I decided I wanted one with a single station as a bracelet. I got quotes from the normal PS vendors and IDJ beat the price by half if not a little more. I did request that the bezel be handmade and delicate with the bezel loops like tiffanys (not the normal IDJ style loops that are perpendicular). Luann told me that they could do it. SO it was suppose to be ready in 1 week and it was but they made the loops their normal way and she had to send it back for them to correct. It is now finished and she sent me the pics which is why I am posting here. I have to say at first glance I was excited but then I looked closely at the bezel loops and they don't look even or the same. One looks like it has a glob of metal on it. I called her immediately and she said that it must be the lighting and angle of the photo. She saw it in person and she said it looked great. Very beautiful. Will you please reassure me that I am seeing nothing. Or am I seeing something? She did say that with handmade its not going to be "perfect perfect" because its handmade and yet I told her that the reference pic I sent was handmade too and looked even. It already shipped before I called her back. In the end she is saying if I am not happy they will fix it but that means I have to ship it back pay etc etc...

Thanks for reading this far. What do you think?

You are talking about the top one, correct? I think it may be an optical illusion with the reflection of the YG and lighting, but the bottom picture looks perfect --- to me.

I hope it is just as perfect when you get it but know if it is not, they WILL make it right for you! Good luck, Hathalove!

I don't think it would be noticeable in person. But I think it is like that because they took off the loops and stuck them on the other way. You'll have to see it in person to really know.

Re: My DBTY single station 14k rose gold from IDJ is done BU

I can definitely see it on both photos but I don't know how noticeable it will be in real life -I hope it's ok!! I love the rose gold!

Re: My DBTY single station 14k rose gold from IDJ is done BU

I think I see it but then again pictures make things look weird sometimes.
Can I ask you some questions about your bracelet? I'm starting the process of getting two of these. One for SIL and one for myself. Same rose gold. I haven't been able to decide what size stone I want. I want it to be big enough to see but dainty and casual enough to wear everyday. Could you please share what carat size your diamond is? And when you receive it, could I possibly see some wrist pictures and maybe IRL pictures?
So many questions! I'm sorry! :naughty:

I can see the globby bit and the bezel is not flush with the stone there.

I would ask them to redo it if I were you, before they send it out.

OOOPS!!! I looked at the pictures as I just woke up - still in bed, reading on my ipad ... and now I see what you are talking about - there does seem to be a fairly evident 'blob' of ??solder?? attaching the loop to the bezel. Yes - see it now!

Mind you, it is magnified out of proportion, so when you see it IRL, it may not be at all noticeable or if it is, it could well be something you could live with. I'd say see it first (I think you said it was already sent, right?) and then discuss by phone/email before shipping back if you want it adjusted.

(this should teach me to not post when I'm half asleep!!! Sorry Hathalove!)

Re: My DBTY single station 14k rose gold from IDJ is done BU

looks like a potentially botched soldering job there. They can fix that for you :)

Re: My DBTY single station 14k rose gold from IDJ is done BU

It does look a bit weird to my eyes. But I am extremely picky when it comes to bezel (and prongs too).

Re: My DBTY single station 14k rose gold from IDJ is done BU

You need to see it in person :)) Also, temper your expectations -- it cost half what other jobs would cost. It will not be perfect.

I agree. It's obvious from the photo that there is a glob there and it's a lot easier to get it fixed now, rather than sending it back.

Also, I had a hand made DBTY and it turned out "perfect" perfect, so I don't agree that you should just accept it due to being handmade!

Hi, I used to be Smith1940 but I had my account deleted as I was spending too much time surfing PS and needed a long break! I tried to resurrect it but couldn't so now I'm Smith1942.

As some might recall, I had a number of DBTY pieces made for me by WF and BGD. Since I left PS for a break, I've had more matching pieces made too. I've had a rose gold DBTY bracelet made by BGD to match by necklace, and a sapphire BTY bracelet made to match my WF necklace. And sapphire bezel studs by WF. And rose gold diamond studs by BGD. And WF diamond baby bezel studs. WF and BGD's bezels are different from each other, and I've become an amateur armchair bezel expert!

I can indeed see a slight "blob" on the top of yours. However, the picture is clearly magnified enormously. Is it possible that you could live with it? What does it look like in real life?

Part of the pleasure of jewellery is staring at it. A lot. If you think it's going to bother you...

I know IDJ is an excellent vendor. They make amazing stuff and their prices seem to be superb. But....WF and BGD really are known for the total perfection of their bezels. Maybe that's why the quotes were more expensive? They must have some special way of doing it, or special machine or something. On Purseforum I saw a thread where someone had bought a Blue Nile DBTY and she said the bezel was wonky. WF and BGD really seem to have this style licked.

WF's bezels are quite a bit more substantial than BGD's and kind of "donut-shaped", almost. I'll have to post pics when I have time. In comparison, BGD's are really, really delicate. The idea is that the diamond is "floating". Personally, I prefer my bezels a little thicker, but considering how delicate BGD's bezels are, they really are completely perfect. My WF bezels are also utterly perfect.

I mean, you said you saved quite a bit of money, so maybe that's the trade-off. WF and BGD aren't cheap for their perfection, that's for sure!

Out of curiousity, what size diamond is it?

Who made your handmade piece MC? Was is priced much lower than comps?

First off! Thank you everyone for your input. When she sent me the photos by the time I received the email she had already sent the package fed-ex. Bummer.

For everyone who asked it is a .10 diamond which helps to put in perspective how small this is and with a 1mm chain. However, I still want it to look well made and symmetrical. I think where I went wrong was asking them to do it differently then they normally do the bezel loops. Plus the fact that they didn't do it right the first time and probably did a rush correction.

I have to say that I am disappointed even without seeing it yet. And if that extra glob is solder material then I am down right upset.

Here is the other thing. If I had walked into a store 5 years ago and picked up this bracelet and put it on I am not sure I would notice it. Honestly I saw my first dbty anything being on Pricescope. I have only recently become ULTRA picky because of this place! I now know sooooooo much because of Pricescope...paying attention to loops on bezels let alone the style of bezels is stressing me out. lol

To be even more honest... For what it is I would not pay much more personally (tiny diamond and very little gold), I would have opted for something else or saved for something different or buy something else off preloved like my BGD bezel diamond and sapphire band that I wear everyday:)

YayTacori..btw there is a preloved BGD single station in rose gold with a .15 diamond for $500 which seller says is selling at a loss for her. She said that she is selling because the stone is tiny and isn't present enough for her. She wants to upgrade stone size. That may give you all some perspective on pricing.

I did see that. I was thinking that maybe your's was bigger and I can get a perspective on size. Thanks tho :)

Hathalove, I'm sorry you are dealing with this but I am sure Yekutiel will make it right. I have a DBTY necklace from them and the handmade bezels are beautiful! So, I don't agree with those here who say you should expect less quality just because they charge less than BGD or WF. If they say they can do the job right I trust they will. Just call them when you receive the bracelet and talk it over with Yekutiel. I know he will make you happy. Good luck and don't get upset. It'll be OK.

Re: My DBTY single station 14k rose gold from IDJ is done BU

Hi, JanesJewels here. Just wanted to say that the bracelet is 18k yellow, not rose, and the diamond is 0.14.

Whiteflash actually quoted me $995 for the same piece, and a similarly high price for other yellow gold items. Maybe I just asked for quotes in a week where there was a leap in gold prices. I was honest with them though, I emailed and said look, those prices are through the roof and BGD quoted me $625, so I think I'll be going with them for this piece!! They said they understood. (Conversely, WF has sometimes been hundreds cheaper than BGD in quotes. It definitely pays to shop around.) I got $50 repeat customer discount off mine so ended up paying $575. I don't know what your IDJ bracelet was but I hope this give you an idea of what sort of deal you got! 'Course, WF and BGD use the super-ideal melee which is also very white.

Re: My DBTY single station 14k rose gold from IDJ is done BU

I do see what you are talking about. If, when you see it in person, the bracelet is not to your satisfaction then it should be repaired.

Re: My DBTY single station 14k rose gold from IDJ is done BU

IDJ has a good reputation for customer service. If you are not happy when you see it, then go from there.

My point is not to judge from macro photos. One muct pay a hefty premium for work that is perfect with macro photography! And often, with normal vision, such irregularities are not evident.
