OR...I could just do pave (no surprise diamond) under the center stone while also keeping the sides plain.

Thoughts? Opinions? Fruit to be thrown? I''m having a heckuva time making up my mind and would love to hear what y''all think.

THANKS!! :)

Hi Shay!

Looks like I was posting while you were posting. :)

Still like the pave/surprise combo now that I''ve uploaded one with just pave? Just curious to learn your preference. :)

It *does* look much like the Cross Olympian ... I saw that one today and was all "HEY -- that''s like that custom ring" ... now it makes sense!

I could have the side stone baskets just be simple and plain while keeping the pave/surprise under the center diamond:
Ummmmmmm .. I think it would look AWESOME if there wasn''t a suprise diamond and all three baskets were lowered a bit .. more snug to the ring. The whole thing would be less top-heavy & teetery. Don''t thing the suprise diamond does anything for it -- since there''s a little bling with the pave crossbar ... maybe if you ix-nayed the suprise diamond on either side you could get pave on all three cross bars???

Thanks for the replies, Shay, Deco and NYCSparkle! I appreciate all of the insight/opinions.

I think I''m going to sleep on it. I''m just so torn. It''s like I''m surprised that I have to make a decision. ;)

Gosh, I somehow missed the mention of the Cross Olympian, but it looks perfectly designed! Why not just get it??

Hi DiamondSeeker2006!

Y''know...I did think about it. I called Cross and was ready to pull the proverbial trigger, but I really, really wanted a pave band and Cross doesn''t really customize their rings. They said they could take an existing, channel-set band from another ring and marry them together, but I wasn''t too wild about that idea.

I''m hoping Knox can capture the beauty and elegance of Cross'' Olympian. I have confidence that they can! (GULP) ;)

By the by, I decided, after changing my mind no less than 50 gazillion times, to go with the pave basket/surprise diamond under the center stone only. It''s what my budget allowed and my heart liked. I also asked for the baskets to be lowered per your/Deco''s/other wise PS-er''s suggestion. YAY! :)

Here''s just a little idea for you--in the sidestone circles that are empty, maybe you could plunk in tiny birthstones, one for you, one for your DH OR kids if you have two....It wouldn''t change the look of the ring, just a little surprise for you when you look at it from the side.

Hi parkerj!

Very nice idea! I do have two little sweeties (a two year-old and a five month-old), and the birthstones would be peridot and garnet. I''ll have to mull that over. That could be pretty cool. :)

i love the version you decided upon - the pave basket with surprise diamond under the center stone only. i think it''s balanced and beautiful. the circles with nothing in them did look a little odd, and the pave without the surprise just a wee bit too simple, though had i not seen the version with the surprise i would have liked it! personally i really liked the height (hard to find in a 3 stone) but there''s always that debate: aesthetics vs. practicality. can''t wait to see the finished product!!

oh, and a few weeks ago i happened across the cross olympian and loved it, i immediately bookmarked it. i wondered also why not just get that one when reading your thread, but i see your point. you manged to create a ring with a lot of wonderful design elements, without it looking too busy. it all comes together just right in your design, and i wouldn''t want to forgo the pave on the sides either! plus, i love the taper, LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

Aw thanks, Rainydaze! I appreciate the kind words and feedback. :)

I asked Brian to lower the baskets just a skosh, so we''ll see what he comes back with. I love the fluid, graceful lines of the first rendering, but I don''t bang up the ring taking clothes out of the washing machine and the like. ;)

I''ve been making myself crazy with all of the many decisions a custom ring entails. Knox has been AWESOME about all of my questions and tweaks. Very patient and accommodating while also giving their $.02.

Anywho...thanks again for your sweet words! I''m looking forward to seeing the ring!

PS Glad you like the taper. That was sort of a last-minute decision on my part and I''m SO glad I included it!

Kathleen, I think the other thing that makes the baskets look so high is that the sides of the shank do not swoop up to the sides of the baskets like they do on the Cross ring. I think it looks a little better on the Cross ring plus it gives more support to the baskets. Do you see what I mean?

you''re welcome! it''s great to hear knox is wonderful to work with too. i''m glad they are making this a good experience for you!!

I''m in agreement with Deco: no surprise diamond and lower all the 3 stones.

OR

If you really want the surprise stone, then add 2 little coloured gemstones on the other 2 smaller sides (to help with the budget, keep the continuity of the surprise design and a little pop of colour).

The design is really lovely and beautiful! I like the renditions without the circles and surprise diamonds personally. Pave baskets on all three stones would be perfect, but not necessary if budget doesn''t allow for it.

Thanks for the replies, Rainydaze, DiamondSeeker, Chrono and KCoursolle! :) I appreciate the advice, feedback and handholding!

I decided to stick with the surprise diamond/pave under the center basket only. It spoke to me--and it was in my budget, which is always nice. ;)

Here are the latest renderings. I agreed with y''all about the baskets being a tad high and since I didn''t really want to go with a cathedral-esque setting, asked them to lower the baskets a tad. What do you think? They''re not TOO low, are they? (Gosh, I feel like I''m being paranoid!)

Here''s another image. I''m thinking (read: hoping) that the hefty-looking prongs are a function of the design software and the super closeups...

I think it looks gorgeous.

Yeah? WHEW! That makes me feel tons better! Thanks for the reply, FireGoddess. I know you like the delicate look, too, so I really value your opinion!

A trillion times better! PERFECTION. Can''t wait to see it!

I think the new version is perfect, it''s going to be such a gorgeous ring!!!

It looks awesome, love the new version!!!!

Those CAD images are amazing! I really think the changes you made were wise ones. It looks perfect!

Deco, MrsS, Kaleigh and LoveInBloom,

THANKS!! :) Your comments have made me feel much more confident. I love this community! Your insight is invaluable. :)

I''m off to tell Brian to make it so. YAY!! :)

sorry i didn''t check in sooner....... IT''S PERFECT!! now that i see it, i can see how they were a tad too high originally. the new version looks just right!! oh, it''s going to be gorgeous!!

Thanks, RainyDaze! :) Now I just have to wait for the finished ring. Pretty darn excited over here!!
